Mr previous post on the hard starting and misfiring of my 2003 BA XR8, has returned with a vengance!!. Appears the replacing of the purge valve was not the fix it was thought to be.
I has the same issues occur yesterday, hard starting, rough idle, excessive fuel usage, misfire and as new symptom, stalling (three times) and then top it off the automatic only changed through 1-2-3-2-1, in adaptive mode. Shift points were drawn out and abrupt.
I took it back to the serving dealer and indicated my displeasure, and requsted it be fixed. I called Ford customer service and to be honest it was just another case. I appreciate it is to the but to me its a $57,000 case in
which over the past 6 months has not been fixed, and it is time for them to become involved. Which i am still waiting to hear from Ford CS officer.
The vehicle is stock standard and no ECU chip, so what ever it is is not a purge valve and somewhat more sinister. Any ideas would be appreciated. :fraz:
No rattles an no pinging, just no power and feels liek its missing a bank of sparkies!!! and yes buy me a "double b" tanker full of optimax!!.
I just got the car back and they are unsure. The throtle body apparently was "clogged up"(????), unusual for this low km apparenlty. They cleaned it up, so we see what happens. No fault codes could be found, latest flash upgade for the ECU, and has them and the ford tsch boys slightly baffled. They say there are a few other options to go through so this is step 1.
I have been experiencing horrendous fuel consumption also... and rough idle at start up on occasions (after rain??). I shoved 79.1 litres down the things throat this morning.
What i want to know is how rough is rough in idle terms. Everytime im in my ute i think is this the rough idle people are talking about? Or was that a slight rattle in the gearbox?? Reading these threads has made me really paranoid and i dont know whether what im experiencing is really that bad or its just normal????????
For interests sake what do you guys regard as bad fuel economy??
Rough idle i am getting is due to a misfire or mis fires, or just not firing at all!. It is truly missing a few spark plugs when it plays up. I took it for run today and it was like its normal self, off and motoring, very smooth and all present and accounted for. The program in the ecu is the current one( thsi has been going on for months so they have always kept flashign the ECU). It is such an intermitent fault, of if in fact is a fault, and as they (servicing dealer) have done and "mygt" suggestion. "toolman's" comments are interesting because this is also when I get this problem, after it rains or when left undriven for a few days. it is all very frustrating!!!!!!!
Fuel Consumption: I am getting around town between 250 and 300kms out of a tank (70 litres).
Rough Starts: I am now convinced that water or condensation gets in somewhere... I park on the street 4 nights a week, just overhead powerlines for protection from the elements... and I can now see a pattern... heavy rain... ute farts around for the first 15 seconds or so...
I have given up worrying about the rough starting... because it's impossible to repeat for a service department.
I had a thread going about severe starting problems and rough running when leaving my car for a few days. At one stage I simply couldn't get it to fire up at all. Interesting....
Before flash ... I was gettign just over 300Ks a tank .. after.. nearly 400 including time at calder ( a whole 4 runs though ) and a lot of stop / start city driving.
My rough driving was like it was a carby car with no choke ..it would stumble and fart and carry on ... then after a short time it was fine.
I sometimes get some sort of induction noise on start up in the morning, doesnt happen all the time just ocassionally not sure what it is, doesnt sound like a big deal though.
I read somewhere in a thread that some of the Boss inlet manifolds had SAND still in them from the casting process ! I wonder how many got through production and into vehicles ?
I would imagine that would cause some problems !
It's time for me to add to this, I have a full Herrod header/exhaust system. Since the headers were installed it appears on occasions that the engine is misfiring or running on less cylinders. I don't believe the cause is the headers, it's just more apparent because of the headers. Half the time the car sounds like it's running on all eight and goes like a rocket. On other occasions it sounds like it's missing a cylinder or two and performance appears to drop off. Is anyone else experiencing a similar situation?
Well the latest on the BA XR8, is that having been ripped apart, and the the throtle body cleaned, it has run faultlessly. Touch wood not a hic cup. It was reflashed and one thing which stands out is that is that I am no longer getting thumping 1-2-1 auto changes on light throtle. I "cant feel a thing" it is so smooth in the auto now. It is all very odd. Not sure if it is the gummy throtle or just a screwy ecu. Economy is back to unbelievable, 500km out of a tank...
i spoke to david in the tech dept at fpv on thursday, there will be a reflash in around 3 weeks time that should fix any rough idle and also stalling problems.
I think the problem is on its way back, started the beast this morning, and it ran rough, and then jumped up to 1500rpm at the idle, then dropped back to the 1000 rpm. i turned it off then restrat same thing occured, I then just drove it, auto shift changes were harsh, but no power loss this time, whe at tlights the idle was bouncing around 750-1000rpm. When I got back in and started it went to 750rpm, and back to smooth changes? no further spooks for the rest of the day, hmmmmm

I reckon they're pretty much the same thing anyway.
