hey , just checked my oil level shows alittle low only done 5000 k.s does any one know what oil the factory puts in them ( BA XR8 03 )

The oil from new is a mineral oil . As for the brand , it might be Castrol , but i'm not sure these days .

Mobil 1 0-40w after around 5000k , but running in on mineral oil is the go.
I find it hard that a dealer would say Mobil , considering Ford recommend using Castrol ( unless its changed again )

Hey i rang the CRC and they told me Castrol Protect. I don't think it is mineral oil.
These engines are "run in" at factory.

I asked a Ford tech what oil they came from the factory with and he said a synthetic oil.......but that means nothing. Sometimes I am better of asking questions about Fords to my 15yr old dog!

Ford like all good car companies change when whoever gives them the best deal. Castrol is the flavour of the month, I just had my BA XR8 changed to Castrol R 0-40 having used Mobil 1 10-30 from 3000k. I just had a 10000k service (I dont trust the 15000ks interva)

You're not willing to wait another 5000km's for the oil change, that's cool, I wasn't either, but you are happy to put the wrong spec oil in? What is your reasoning behind using the different weight oils to manufacturers spec's?

I was told you can use slightly THICKER viscosity oil during summer. I would never go THINNER.

Just make sure the grade is up to spec...
