eek So, tell me about these upcoming 5.4L AV Falcons.

I was elated to read recently that the upcoming AV Falcon will be
using a 5.4L Modular V8. The article I read claimed the following:

September 2002 - New AV Falcon range:

240kW 5.4-litre DOHC V8 Fairmont Ghia/Fairlane/XR8 and optional across range
275kW 5.4-litre DOHC V8 T-Series sedan/ute
300kW 5.4-litre GT

These sound like some great powerplants. We have no
equivalents here in the US, unless you count the 5.4L DOHC in the
limited production (only 300 made) 2000 Mustang Cobra R. Also,
the Lincoln Navigator (SUV) has a similar motor, but it is setup for
truck application (low end torque).

So what else might you guys know about these? Such as:

Is the 300Kw motor a SOHC with a blower (rather than a N/A
DOHC)? If so, then I wonder if it may actually be a derivative of
the motor in the F150 Lightning?

Are these going to be using Aluminum blocks? In the US, we only
have Iron 5.4L blocks thus far (4.6L are available in Aluminum
however).

Any idea what heads they are using (all new design, or the same
as the DOHC heads on the Lincoln Navigator)?

Any idea what the price range of these cars will be?

Are these motor going to be built in the US? If not, are they going
to be assembled with US-sourced parts (like block, cranks, heads,
manifolds, etc.)

Any other info you have would be very appreciated! BTW, if you
guys have questions about the modular motors we have over
here, I would be happy to answer what I can.

Thanks, Mark K

I tell you what is Sh*ts me off!

I just bought a 200kw XR8 ute 5 months ago and since then they have bought out first the 220kw and now the 240kw 5.4l all in what will be just over 1 year.

It doesn't exactly give you a hell of a lot of confidence that your Falcon XR8 is going to hold any value whatsoever.

Obviously things have to move on and its great for prospective new owners but it really sucks for recent exisiting AUII owners.

<rant mode off>

Anyway that's just my bitch..what do you need to get 240Kw out of my ancient 5.0l then? Do I need to spend huge amount of $$$?

Apparantly it's an all new motor mate. We don't know much more than what the articles are saying at this stage. It's all very hush hush around here..

Surprisingly little is required for 240 out of your XR8 ute. remember though that the utes are still 200 at the moment so you still have the current spec.

To get 240 an exhaust with headers and bigger cats, camshaft and that would be real close straight away. To improve fuel consumption and driveability with the bigger cam fit Unichip. Laughing!

As usual I will refer you to Herrod Motorsport 03 9464 5100 who have such kits drive-in-drive-out. But be prepared to be hooked! Once you get the first sniff of what a windsor can do you won't want to stop!

Finally, don't be distressed about the 5.4. In USA the modulars are wearing thin and many performance enthiusiasts wish they had Windsors again - like us!!!!!

Well how about VT1 HSV owners when the VT2 was released and they found out that a standard Executive had more power and was faster than their 6 month older HSV which cost them 50-80k.

As far as I know it will be an all new Unit sourced from the US. It will probably have both SOHC and DOHC and both block and Head will be most likely all-alloy also. I think if internals will need to be socued they will be from Australian companies, and I know we won't be supercharging it. By the way Mark, what is the current power output of the stock sohc and dohc motors?

20rwh out of 200kw AU ute

I know someone who bolted a set of 1.7:1 rockers onto an AU 200kw ute and dyno test showed up around the 20rwhp figure.

Iwas there so I know they are not lying.
