Has there been any testing to the SOHC 5.4 apart from exhaust mods?

I go to a few U.S www sites and most good mods on these engines including 4.6 is usually forced induction.. As in best bang for buck bassis..

I wander if any one consider buying a three valver V8 and adding Vortech etc, would be still under the XR price??? I'd option the better brake package though!!!

knowing nothing about the actual construction of the block, I wonder how feasible it would be to destroke it and bore it out to try and make the bugger rev.
Anyone got any ideas on what the maximum over bore is??

Since the power is made quite low in the rev range in the SOHC, if the revs could be brought up to the high 5's then a much larger cam can be used to peak around there which i would imagine increase power quite a bit if the current SOHC cam is small and limited to making power low in the revs. Wih a large cam there would still be good torque down low with the 5.4's stroke length.
Or i may be wrong.

Yes I guess you would be right.The 5 Ltr efi took a few years to get things worked out now we have a three valve to confuse things more.I guess like 4 valve engines a slight difference in cam timing makes heaps of difference due to over all valve size...But like the il six 12 valve too big duration kills power due to engine not being revable up top R & D will sort it out I hope ???...

The heads are designed to make torque down low, not power up top. The motor was designed for the F series which needs all the torque it can get to move the bulk. Thats why the XR8 uses the 4 valve heads. Tickford engineers originally wanted to use the 3 valve in the XR and GT but after modifications were performed in the engine lab it still struggled to make decent top end power, which moved development to the Boss motors, and explains why they were late to be released as they never intended to use them.
