im after anyone that has fitted a set of carillo rods to a 5.4, what sort of mods did you have to do to the block , crank and pistons, and how much did it cost for all the machining and parts.
im interested in this because im going to be building a blown 5.4 for a customer.

thanks in advance, damien.
Unless you are ultimately after more revs from the Boss, the standard rods are probably allright, but i would imagine you will be de-compressing the motor with new pistons, so you will change the rods whilst you are at it ???
If you are going for more revs, apparantley the timing chains fly off at about 6250rpm, id be looking into that while you are at it aswell.
Standard crank should be fine as it is forged steel, conrod replacement would definately be a worthwhile move especially with a blown motor as would a good set of forged pistons. How much power and boost are you aiming for and are you keeping the standard rev limit.

There are Billet/forged H beams available for half the price of carrillo rods. They bolt right in and require no machining (Other that a rebalance of the crank.
Al
this one you are rebuilding damian is it one of the s/c ones that blew up and went to calder frequently?
NO NOT THE ONE THAT BLEW UP AT CALDER ITS ONE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AFTER ITS CURRENTLY 340 RWKWS WITH HIGH INLET TEMPS "HEAPS OF PULLS ON THE DYNO" NO DETINATION PROBS GOOD FUEL CONSUMTION OWNER HAPPY MODS ARE EXHAUST VORTECH 8 PSI DIFFERENT PLUGS "BIG GAIN FOR CONTROL OF PINGING" ECU TUNE TIMING & A/F RATIOS ADJUSTED
WE ARE LOOKING AT DOING THE ENGINE UP GRADE BECAUSE WATER TO AIR COOLER , 15 PSI TO GET 440 TO 450 KW'S AT THE TREADS

How much would a new stronger set of timing chains be worth, would that be all that is required to rev it higher Besides rod, pistons and billet oil pump gear. Did some one break their timing chains, everyone seems to be saying that these break very easily.

CURRENTLY 340 RWKWS 440 450 KW'S WITH WATER TO AIR COOLER UP THE VORTECH TO 15 PSI MORE TUNING "ECU TIMING & A/F RATIO SO ENGINE STRENGTH A MUST "KEEP THEM HAPPY" WE WONT LOOK AT HIGHER RPM BUT I HAVE CAM DEVELOPMENT IN PROCESS FOR BLOWIN BOSS

440 450 RWKWS 15 PSI WATER TO AIR COOLER AND TUNE ECU WE ARE CURRENTLY MAKING CONSISTANTLY ON THE THE DYNO 340 KW'S SO ENGINE OUT IN 3 TO 5 WEEKS FOR BLUEPRINTING WE ARE GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE TRACK TO SEE 1/4 ET & MPH FIRST ENGINE UPGRADE A MUST FOR THIS POWER LEVEL "CINTERD IRON RODS ??????????"
