How much would I gain by putting 428 heads on my 360 engine?The engine is .030 over with performer intake and 600 edelbrock 4 barrel.

The 428 heads will fit on the 360 block. The 360 block has the same bore as the 390 but is stroked with the 352 crank. 4.05 bore and 3.50 stroke. You'll gain better air flow, witch will allow for larger carboration.

Just wondering if building the 360 is worth it or would it be better to go with a 390.Ihave not built the engine yet.But I do want to get some hp to turn the 35 inch tires.I am putting gears and lockers in it to help with the big tires.I am going with a bigger cam.

I believe you'll get more torque out of a longer stroked crank. The 360 crank will do an OK job... but if your like me....you won't be satisfied. The 390 has a little more stroke. The difference is 3.50 for the 360 and 3.78 for the 390. If you can find a 428 crank, that would be the way to go. The 410 FE motor came with a 428 crank also. You can probably pick up a set of C6-H or C8-H velocity heads that will work just fine for a lot less money, unless you already have the 428 heads. With tires that big you'll need the torque to get them going especialy if you're going to do some serious off roading.

So if I find a 428 crank will it drop right in with out any alterations?Yea it's going to be off roaded.I am putting air lockers in the front and rear and changing the gears.Or would the 390 crank suffice.Cause I have 2 stock 390 cranks ready to be machined.Thanks for the response.

If you already have the 390 cranks ready to go you would be saving money to go that route. If you do find a 428 crank keep in mind that you should balance it wirh the balancer and flywheel that your going to use. It's rule of thumb not law though. My 428 is running a larger balancer than what I balanced it with....no problems. The 390 set up is ok you might have to make some gear swaps to get final satisfaction.

Yea I think I will put the 390 crank in and bore it and install a bigger cam.Thanks for all the info it is a lot of help.
