361 oil leak

Im having a major oil leak on my 58 edsel. I have oil coming out my dipstick tube, fill tube in the intake, and my bellhousing is covered in oil. My left upper control arm shaft is covered in oil from the dipstick tube. The engine was rebuilt 2 yrs ago by Jasper. I recently pulled my intake cause the cork seals were soaked and i just thought my intake was leaking. Did new gaskets about 3 wks ago. Siliconed the ends of the block instead of using the cork seals. Didnt do a damn thing. I think the leak got worse acouple days ago. My father cant stand my car leaving its mark in the driveway anymore. If anyone can give me idea what to do or look for it would help.

Re: 361 oil leak

My first thought would be too much oil in the motor. if oil is ok than there may be a clog somwhere forcing oil to escape at any orifice. What kind of oil pump was installed, high volume pump is ok but if a high preasure oil pump was used there might be a problem there.

Did this poblem just start or has it been occuring since the overhaul?
The only way oil could come out of the dipstck tube etc, too much pressure in the crank case. Check the plugs, and maybe do a compression test.

Re: 361 oil leak

Here is what the psi is. Car temp @ about 170 degrees. Idle 740rpm 40 psi, 1100rpm 54 psi, and 2500rpm 60 psi. The shop manual says 45-50 psi HOT 1000rpm. I got the car all together run and driving in '07. This leak started last yr.

Re: 361 oil leak

You have horrendous blow by pressureizing the crank case or the breather is plugged.
Check the P.C.V. system. I've seen this when the rings were not seated properly and
the engine was not broken in properly. Also a bad rebuild and assembly will cause this.
The engine will have to come apart and be measured.
