390 FE build recommendations?
Hi, I'm new here but these like a fairly active FE forum and I was wondering if I could get some input on finishing my father in laws 390. So far the engine is
.030 bored and decked
.010 crank and rods
Edelbrock streetmaster intake(with a bad ass paintjob I might add)
68 mustang 390 gt heads with hardened valveseats.
longtube headers.
I want to keep the engine cost down but would aslso like toake some decent power. I have to be able to run pump gas we have 92 octane up here. Was thinking of something like 9.5 to 10.0 to 1 CR. I want to reuse the stock style rocker setup but would be willing to change springs if i had to. It is going into a 57 ford f100.
So I guess I need help with the CR/cam/lifters/springs.
Also if i am replacing the Rods and pistons should I get the rotating assembly balanced? they want a lot of money to balance it, and i have the ability to weight and balance (got axcess to a sweet scale setup to .oooo lbs)it all. i have heard that it you are useing lighter the stock equipment that doing anything to the crank isn't necessary. I DON'T want to screw up my father in laws engine, I havn't been in the family that long. :-)
Any input is appeciated and thanks
