FE 428 long motor or 410?

It seems the old 390 is rooted, after looking at my options i'm undecided as to what to do. The conversion kit to go from a FE to a 385 series engine is worth $1200 on its own and that doesn't include the fact the master cylinder sits way too close to the rocker cover as is (after the right hook conversion) and is another $2000 to fix because if i'm going to upgrade the master cylindder then i'm going to convert the brakes to disk at the same time.

So an FE block seems to be the go, but now i'm looking for opinions as to wether I should just get a 428 crank and slot it into my current 390 (410ci) with new pistons, bearings, cam, intake and carby. Or do go for a complete 428, give it a mild rebuild (cam, intake and manifld) and drop that straight in.

My headers have been custom made for the 390... will they fit any 428's? If so which ones?

I'm a bit lost in all the FE block options and what i can/can't do, so if anyone has any advise or links to good info/FAQ's i'd love to see them!

Thanks,
Greg
