Hi all-Big Block Ford sent me here to see if I can get this answered.Who came up with the name "Cobra Jet" for that 428 that Bob Tasker and his buddies bolted those 427 parts on.Or any engine dubbed CJ? Also,who was the brainchild behind the logo represented by my avatar.I've read hours of Ford history articles,and can't quite pin these down.Perhaps the CJ name was applied by Carrol Shelby later when he got involved.He did have his "other" cobra thing going on with AC which generated various "snake" logos.I've even been able to find the names of the guys that worked with Tasker on that first engine,but no references to who named it or penned the artwork.Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated-Thanks

No problem, I have a lot of stuff stored. There is another similiar article if I can find it.

If it wasn't for dealer participation such as Tasca, FORD would have never have had anything on the street during that period.

Only thing we would have had was the 390! Possibly the 427(too expensive)

The 390GT was a dud along with the Hydraulic 427 390HP.

You had to build your own back then.

I guess the coming 429 and 351C would have saved us some face.

Yeah-with only two years before emissions and crap for gas! Remember Sunoco 260? I do, and my 429 SCJ loved it

Current -SUNOCO 260- ain't no slouch.

I remember the 1967 390 MUST. Supposed to be the cat's meow. A 396/325 CAMARO would eat one up. Embarrassing to say the least.

Now you could buy anything you needed from FORD over the counter to stomp a CHEV (and void the warranty), but CHEV offered it turn key.

Not to mention the bow ties "one part fits all" engineering.In my old dirt track days(many moons ago),a Ford could always out perform the comp. if you had three times the cash and new the combination of parts to spend it on.
