I know what I have, how do you think it will perform?

Hello all, new to the Forum and am excited to get any tips or tricks anyone has to offer.

I have 2 64 Galaxies and 4 engines, 2 352's and 2 390's. The 352's are complete and the 390's are a garage find that I've had to piece together.

Anyhow, this is what I got. 390 block will be bored .30 over. Heads are C4AE-G, which I've heard they are HiPo high risers, or the just everyday heads for the FE. New cam with hydraulic lifters, need some advice to which one might be a good match, since I'll be needing a new one. I also have the factory Police Interceptor aluminum intake, which I have considered selling to finance the rebuild, but hopegully I can keep it and use it. I have also read that the PI intake will take a 750 cfm 4 barrel. However, I have two FoMoCo Holley looking carbs with no idea what thier cfm is. I also have an Edelbrock carb from my garage find, but haven't checked part numbers yet to see how big it is. ANy advice in the cardb realm would be helpful too.

I am in the process of getting the machine work done on the engine parts and haven't bought much other than that.

Anyone have any ideas of performance for this kind of engine? If I recall, a stock 390 is 9.5:1 with 300 hp. I assume I should do a little better than that

The C4AE-6090-G heads are lowrisers that you have. They are called tall port heads compared to the later 66 on FE heads. A good head in stock trim. Very good with some port work and larger valves. They are not rare or expensive (yet) but a favorite of many to use. The 427 highriser head was the C4AE-6090-F which some confuse with the C4-G heads for some reason. But anyway. The oem PI intake is a nice piece to have. In nice shape they sell for $800+-. You could buy the better flowing version of the PI made by Blue Thunder (under $500) and some extra cash as well. But that's your call. Some just prefer the oem parts which are really nice to have. But do check out the Blue Thunder intakes along the line. On the airhorn of the Holley carbs there should be a Ford part number and a list number underneath it. Post those #'s if you can and we'll see what they are. The 352 blocks can go 4.05+ like the 390's. In essence they are the same block.

May be a 10.0:1-10.5:1 compression depending on the year. If it's not an actual holley then check out Pony Carburetors website. The deal in Ford carbs.

I know the old guy at pony carbs there in las cruces, NM. He knows his carbs, give him the numbers off the carb and he'll tell you everything about it. He has an engine dyno and a chasis dyno so if your ever in southern New Mexico, stop and see him.
