My Crazy Idea for a 400M

I was thinking about what to do for the new powerplant i plan on constructing for my car and I've established some basics that I want. It will be carbureted with a Holley 4165 spread bore, it will be 383ci displacement and will maximize torque. Since I started planning I was always just thinking about stroking up my 351W block but then it donned on me that I could destroke a 400m to 383 and have a huge rod ratio. i know what you all are thinking Why would you want to get rid of cubic inches. I don't really know this idea just kind of hit me so I thought i would throw it to the internet and see what other people thought. So give me you input constructive, criticizing or otherwise.

Well if your passionate about doing it then go for it. It will be a torquey beast.

The parts for the Windsor are more plentiful and cheaper.

The amount of performance intakes or intakes in general for a 400M is low. Alot of the other parts are the same as the Cleveland.

I think the block clutch housing bolt pattern is different between a Windsor and the M series too if that is important.

ya it's just something that popped into my head if i'll actually do it is another thing depending on if it's easier to stroke up a 351W or stroke down the 400M I know the destroked 400M will have way more torque due to the larger rod ratio. It all depends on what i can find parts for easiest.

you can always change the 351W to a 427 stroker! yeehaa!

I would love the 427 but it's not a very good long term engine the pistons are so thin they like to move around in the bore. But if i had the money and i didn't need this car to last for ever I would totally go with the 427.
