Where is the coolant temp sensor

here's what I have (its a little messy right now I know)
in a '59 Galaxie its a 332 with automatic
I can't find where the coolant temp sensor (sending unit)
can someone help me out here

I think on some of the early 332's the temp sender was in the bypass tube from the intake to the water pump. If that is true with your engine, someone has refitted it with a straight piece of rubber hose.

If you can't find a replacement for it, what you can do is come off of the water hose fitting (just before the thermostat) with a Y or T and use one side for the sender and the other side to continue to the heater core. There should be a loose wire in the area and that is more than likely going to be your temp wire. Make sure that you do it at that point because that's where the water will be the hottest.
