Went for a cruise last night with the LS1 fraternity - in the stock XR6 - and made some interesting comparison regarding the performance of the turbocharged engine. First and foremost from a standing start the XR6, if you feed it out at 2200rpm, will match or beat any of them, save for Brute, whose trick trans and 240rwkw in a VU, gives him an upper hand.
Roll ons though are a different story, and even full exhaust cars cant stick with the XR6 from 75km/h or so to - !!!!. The trick with the Ford is to start the roll on at 2700rpm in 3rd gear, while the GenIII is at, say, 4900rpm in 2nd. The Ford will stay nose ahead, or level, till the Gen III runs out of revs, where it will fall back on the change, with a good length or two advantage being taken, and held due to the Fords monstrous, and very flat, torque curve. A manual VU with HSV system and gears experienced this effect three times back to back.
Just an observation, but what I can tell you though is that the local LS1 brigade now have a much healthier respect for the XR6 turbo product. Which, of course, is a good thing, as its not a bad car
i reckon there is absolutely no doubt that the XR6-T will go down to be a hero car. Whoever dreamt up the idea of the XR6-T is a damn legend! And to think what it will be like when the aftermarket scene comes on stream...
also, we are in for good times im thinking as far as performance goes. They made mention of the XR6's torque...the XR8 and FPV range all have awesome torqure figures too...
i will make mention now of happy jacks comment to me at the FF raid II: "power is just figures...torque is what you feel, torque is what makes the difference on the road"
well said i reckon

Jee whizz this is really getting to me.... should i go the XR6 Turbo...or the XR8?? The decisions change daily, the turbo is probably the best car i've driven in terms of driveability but that V8 rumble is pure horn!

Well if the Turbo 6 is that good.. imagine the Boss!! /starts chant... V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8 V8.......
Even better if you got the money.....buy a turbo 6 AND the Boss and have the best of both worlds....
Disgrace them in the 6 and disgrace them in the 8 IMO
MWAHAHAHA

I really think bang for buck wise the turbo will be the better of the two cars, stock vs stock though the BOSS seams to be pretty impressive, nothing better than a whole lot of torque( will be nice to see what it does once its out.). But once you start modifying them the turbo just appears to have that much potential i really cant see the V8 matching it.

Well I'm sure Ford will make certain that the XR8 will be better performance wise, otherwise who can justify buying an XR8 for $8k extra when the XR6T is still faster?

I think everyone expects that the XR8 will provide a faster 0-100/400m time. This will be shown in the magazines, and will be a clear/easy performance comparison between the two cars. However, considering the XR8 is only 20kw more than the XR6T, heavier and without the turbo torque spread, I really can't see the XR8 outperforming the XR6T in any other areas, STOCK!. Should be good to see what happens. It's really hard to compare the 2 cars though. That 450nm of torque at 2000rpm is bloody incredible.
