Hi, guys I just have Pick up my Brand new XR6 turbo MKII 6 speed Manual and I have noticed that when I take off in 1st gear I can hear a funny sound from the Gear box like a ratting sound it does it in Low RPM in 1st, 2nd and 3th gear but when I ride the Clutch at 1500RPM when I take off there is no sound at all from the Box just want to know is this normal???? as any you guys have experience this?? I will let ford know tomorrow but just want to know is this normal for the T56 Gear Box.
Mate I get exactly the same noise. I took it into ford and they said that they cannot do anything about it because they do not have a approved fix for the problem, either that or they just had no idea. I am going to ask them to do something about when it goes in for it's next service. Let me know what ford say to you about it.
Cheers

I think it's a characteristic of the box. Mine doesn't have a rattle as such but I've been in many that do (one Mk2 XR8 and the others are Holdens). I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it starts to get louder. Let the car including the gear box run-in and have your dealer look at it at your 3000km service. From now until then just enjoy your new wheels!!
Took a 05 demo phoon for test drive the other week it had excatly the same problem , sounded great through the gear changes but a low rpm in first and sec when just iddling along it had that rattle . Apparently the t56 is Known for doing this .Ford will probably just tell u to turn up your stereo. Manuals are great fun but the auto is for me.
I spoke to ford today they reckon it normal for 2000 to 5000 KM as the gear box needs to be ran in!! all they told me is keep drvining it and clock some KM's on it and if it's still doing it in 3000KM for the frist service they will have a look at it!! but it is an slightly annoying!! and also I have been told the T56 gear box is a noise gear box at frist!! will see what happend with a few more KM's. The car only have 231KM at the moment.
My brother works for Ford (selling new cars) he's been in all of them (GTP, typhoon etc) and it's been in every single one with the 6 speed manual. Mine doesn't do it as bad anymore and i'm at 3800ks. But it's still there, not such a big deal for me really.
It's an inherent problem, whose worst attribute is only the noise, Redline "Shockproof" G/Box oil fixes it up by about 80%, my GT and both of the Typhoons suffered the same problems until Redline was put in, it costs about $300 but is well worth it IMHO I just hope they've fixed it in the BF

Have to agree with the Good Doc on this one, put Redline in mine and am very happy with the results. It IS expensive but it does seem to do the job.
cheers
