Airbox mods?

Just looking for some different opinions on airbox mods, cold air intakes for XR6T's. Read about people installing a second intake on their airbox similar to the typhoons, how do you do this? Feedback on any aftermarket cold air inductions like SS etc would be appreciated. Has anyone noticed a much improvment after carrying out these mods.

Cheers. :hy:

I wouldn't bother with an SS Induction. There are cheaper and equally effective ways.

Buy a BA XR8 Snorkel ($55 from Ford or in the bin at any exhaust CAI workshop who has recently fitted an SS induction to an XR8), a 100mm pipe joiner from Bunnings and cut a 100 mm circular hole in your lower air box. Join the snorkel to the pipe joiner (cut snorkel to fit), join the pipe joiner to your air box and wedge the front of the snorkel under the headlight. Gives the same net effect as the Typhoon CAI.

Remeber the goal is to get more cold air in - and there are many ways of doing this. The above method is a DIY of the Typhoon's (Ford recognised more Cold Air was required)

Attached are pictures of my own 2nd CAI (without 100mm pipe joiner which would have made it look neater)

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info mate. Looks fairly simple and a helluva lot cheaper than the bloody SS inductions what a rort!

For less than $30 (if I am not mistaken) I purchased some 100mm flexi pipe from Clark Rubber, 100mm flange from Bunnings and 100mm rubber joiner with hose clamps.

I cut a 100mm hole in the side of the box, screwed in the flange and attached the flexi pipe via hose clamps. I then ran the pipe down towards the front grill and cable tied it in place. I cut the end 45deg so you have a larger mouth to draw more cool air in. You cannot see it behind the grill.

You can hear the difference it makes with a K&N panel filter and all up a slight more responsive engine. Nice cheap mod IMO.

Cheers
