Aps Stage 2

Hi,

Booked in to get the upgrade from stage 1 to 2 (tommorrow), just wondering if anyone who has had APS2 for a longer period has had any major reliablity problems i.e. engine. gearbox, diff etc? (i don't drive my car hard often, but when i do i give plenty)

Also someone i know has had that the unichip had caused motors to blow up WRX's has anyone heard anything like that with Fords? (was i right to go with the APS kits)

Lastly my car is basically used everyday and i need to keep it at least for another 3.5 years till lease runs out, driven like a normal car should it last like one?

Thanks (i neede the feedback little bit stressed)

Not to shit on the APS product, as it is first rate, however if it needs to be used everyday and you are questioning the reliability of the modifications, perhaps you shouldn't be doing them.

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

I am simply asking if someone has had this product for a longer period of time and if they had any feed back its good to know! (APS2 will be done regardless)

Re: Aps Stage 2

There has been a number on here with APS stage 2 with no dramas, there is another site specifically dedicated to xr6turbo's where aps is a sponsor, do a search and it will come up (cant list it here as the link wont show up)

As for the WRX's blowing up I'de say that was more to do with the owner or tuner winding up the boost too much or having too weak internals to cope with the power upgrade rather than the unichip itself

Re: Aps Stage 2

The boxer engine in the earlier WRX's was a weaker engine than the current crop, as was the tranny. I done 20,000km on the APS Phase II without any dramas caused by the unichip or parts.

It really comes down to how you drive it everyday. I now have Phase III on my ute and have had for 5,000km and mine is a work ute. I might give it one ore two squirts a day but I don't flog it every launch off the lights or anything.

Thanks for your feed back it is very reassuring, specially when you drive your work ute everyday.
Is your ute stock apart from the APS3?

Re: Aps Stage 2

No I have the auto line pressures increased with better bands and clutches in it with an electronic shift kit. The rest is cosmetic, wheels, lowered, xr8 bonnet, customised interior, stereo etc. etc.

Too much money spent on it but hey I enjoy it.

Re: Aps Stage 2

I had stage 2 for a few months and it is fine. No questions about the quality of the gear. it's down to how you drive the car as to whether or not it will last.
