I have a slight flare in the auto under full load at the 2-3 change. It only happens at about 135kmph. I can avoid this by shifting manually when dragging at this speed and changing to 3rd at about 5200rpm. I dont think this slows me too much. I'm looking into various auto mods that mainly involve increasing the preasure in the lines.

Re: Citric Acid XR6 Turbo

My gearbox craped its self completely and i had to have it rebuilt at my own expense!! I think geea your going to have to do much more than upping the line pressure to make it handle 350 to 370kw. mine has the line pressure increased and when its a cool night and the car is running at its optimum performance level i still have to change manually from 2nd to 3rd otherwise i hit the rev limiter!! doh. my gear box is going to have to have quite extensive mods to handle what i have planned. i reckon the valve body needs to be upgraded..

What other mods do you have in mind besides the valve body and the line pressure? It sounds like we are on similar paths. I think we should keep in touch regarding our autos and what we do to them.

I reckon that you will need a lot more than a valve body upgrade to improve the strength of the auto.

Increasing line pressure and similar type modes DO NOT increase the strength of the box. They enable the box to shift quicker and thus less likely to flare, increasing the likely time your box will last before it totally c@#ps itself.

However, the strength of the box remains the same. You need to start looking at upgrading the driveline internals of the box to increase it's torque rating.
I wish I knew an easy answer as to how this could be achieved!!

Re: Citric Acid XR6 Turbo

Thanks for the replies guys. All the information has been duly noted. One thing of concern is the auto box, wasn't it meant to be stronger than the manual for mods? The way you are all talking it sounds like a pinch of shyte. So much for buying auto to stand the extra power from mods. If you were to mod it, and the car was treated relatively good, will the gearbox hold out? The guys that say their auto is sloppy, do you drive it crazy all the time?

Also, anyone know the model number for a K&N airfilter for the BA, went to Supercheap today and they almost sold us an AU one. I looked at the catalogue on the puter there, and it says the AU one fits BA. Wrong!!

Also, how hard is it to pout 6*9 speakers into the rear parcel shelf, sony xplods in particular?

I believe the auto has a higher torque rating than the 447Nm of the T5. I have heard figures of up around 500Nm, but I stand to be corrected on this.

How each type of box stands up to the increased torque from mods will depend not only on how much torque the engine is making but also your driving style. For example, a stage 1 style mod (chip only) would probably by OK for both boxes, however I reckon that once you go to a stage 2, your driving style will heavily influence the longevity of the box.

What type of mods are you planning??

Re: Citric Acid XR6 Turbo

Well, If substantial mods were to be done to this car, ie, more than just a change of filter, it would need to be done through a dealer who is "mod friendly". Problem is, the dealer we bought through in Brisbane didn't even know who Herrod Motorsport was and they werne't interested in putting anything on from them. Anyone know of mod friendly dealers in Brisbane?

Re: Citric Acid XR6 Turbo

Hey. Love the sound of the car. And the colour is very different - guaranteed to stand out! How come your bro got an auto? I test drove the auto and hated it. Test drove manual turbo and loved it. Also test drove manual XR8 and loved it. I own a manual XR6 non turb coz I thought the insurance would be SS-like. Mine is black with premium audio, sunroof, etc. Should be trading up soon and will probably get my current unichip reset for the turb. And apparently they run in really well! Have fun!

Re: Citric Acid XR6 Turbo

Hi XRchic.

The colour is certainly different. What i have noticed is that people either love it or they hate it.
As for the auto, my brother was tired of driving his manual xr8 220 around up and down the hills here in brisbane. It can be quite painful. One time I would have done about 100 hill starts in his car in an hour, quite annoying, and the clutch wasn't too impressed either.
I would probably never get an auto over a manual, but the auto in the turbo is quite fun to drive. My brother and I were both farm boys until we moved to Brisbane and we both know how to drive manuals really well, I think he just wanted something different and the fact that it was available at the dealer when he got it was another reason.

I have pics, not great ones as the only digital camera i have is on my Sharp GX20 mobile phone. Any ideas how to post them?

Paul

Hi Paul

I actually quite like the Citric Acid - I like stuff that is a bit different and that stands out - very nice.

Fair enough with the auto - each to their own! : ) Better than not having a turb at all - ha ha!

About your pics, I am gonna assume you run Windows XP or at least a recent Windows version.... firstly, your phone camera should have come with a CD ROM so you could load the software onto your computer. You should then send the pics from the phone software to "My Pictures" or your equivalent.

From there, to post them, go to the User COntrol Panel "User CP" at the top left of this screen next to chat and FAQ... go into there, and go to "edit atavar" or something similar to this. It is there that you can download your pic into that... just follow the instructions - basically select to have your own atavar and then click the browse button down a bit lower and then search your drive to find the pic you want. Once you have done that, then just hit save. And it should be there.

If you want to post them on other parts, then I think you have to include them in your signature, and you just do the same but go to "edit signature" un User CP.

Aside from that I am not sure.

Would very much like to see a pic of the citric acid!

Have fun with the turb!!!
