Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

I understand that Fuel consumption and performance cars are not always compatible. However, I have a standard XR6T Auto that is getting 20 - 21 Litres per 100 km (City Cycle). I cant cane it in peak hour traffic. Happy to pay for fuel if I am caning it, but there is no point making Shell more rich.

Anybody else have this issue? What was the cause?

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

Hi

COULD perhaps try BP Ultimate, depending on where you are...

That is pretty bad fuel consumption though...

I have said this on a few other threads, but when the cars are made in the factory, they are not indivually tuned, even though each engine is different. Plus they run them very rich out of the factory to prevent burning, and coz it is warranty friendly (burning means too many warranty issues).... some are worse than others. I had mine (NA) run on a dyno and the afr was one of the worst they saw... they retuned it all and now I get 550 out of a tank!!!!

Might wanna get it tested on a dyno to see what it is using, could be running way too rich. It is very common.

Good luck

Yours is a manual isn't Aeron?

Anyway my auto T was getting almost exactly as Aeron as stated up until the APS Stage 2 kit was fitted. Just done the sums on the latest fill tonight, 13.6L/100Km mainly outer suburbs driving in peak hour and my car has done approx. 5000k.

Not bad for 330+kw.

I talked to a bloke a couple of weeks back that also owned an auto T and he said he was getting 280ks to the tank with what he claimed was very mild driving, so who knows whats going on?

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

My standard XR6T after 4500 klm is getting 12.5 lt/100 klm. This is town driving which is different to city driving.

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

When I initially got mine (XR6-T SSS Auto), I was doing around the 18l/100 km. Now after 3200km's, I'm getting around 14.6l/100km with the occasional canning. Thats assuming the trip computer is right ?!?!?!?

Had the oil changed at 3,000km (with the 300km checkup), I recon thats made a small difference.

I've heard it gets better with more km's up to around 10,000km.

IN REALITY: (ie..what I actually put in and how much driving I do)
I do around 300km / week, and have around a 40% tank left over (ie ..need to put in around ~41 litres/week - filling to the 3rd click). In reality this is about 13.7 litres/100km. For the power available, with the occasional thrashing, I guess thats pretty good.

I'm not about to do a full week of canning - dont want to make the oil companies rich !

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

Thanks for the great responses. I am sure Jefferson Ford don't know what is wrong, so I am taking in to City Ford in Melb next Thurs 3rd June. They ran diagnostic tests, and it seemed "fine". Probably just sent a signal to the computer and got a response.

At least City For do work on GT and GTP Falcons, so maybe they know more about performance Fords.

I'll give you an update once I have done a tank after the "fix".

Thanks guys.

I have manual XR6T and depending on how I drive I get approx 16l/100km's around town. I do about 90km's per day in city driving. This figure gets much worse if I am stuck in traffic longer but I am lucky enough to miss most peak hour traffic. The other time the fuel economy is blown out is on the track.

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption on XR6T

You still haven't told us how many klm's you have done mate, if it's a new vehicle and your just running it in then they do use more fuel at this stage.
