Well its starting to reach that stage.

I picked up my typhoon, number 44, on the 6 Dec 04 and was instantly in love. Life could not be better and at work I was telling all me mates (both of them) about how great she was...... even me mate Greg who owned a 03 Clubbie R8 had to admit he was feeling a bit Green.... as I said all was right with the world.

Then word started to get out about some clutch problems..... surely not!!!. You all know how the sad story developed. Despite being offerred the opportunity to park her up and (maybe) get a GT, whilst things were being sorted out, I stayed with my girl... she's lovely and has not let me down yet. I had to put up with some good natured ribbing from me mates about Ford quality control,,, nice car..pity you cant change gears etc... all that crap....but I hung in there..... my faith in FPV engineers holding fast.

Twice now in the last two months I have been contacted by FPV.... not actually saying that the problem has been fixed but they are getting close, it was implied that the "permanent" fix could only be 2 weeks away. So I kept the faith. I put up with the knowing smirks from the HSV drivers.... hell even from the Volvo drivers but last night was the final straw!

Driving home from work on the Mitchell Freeway, I had my window down enjoying the balmy April evening air, as we crawled along in the usual peak hour "rush". Well not once but TWICE! and in both cases it was from fellow Ford drivers ... (although for some strange reason they were both driving EB's). I was yelled at as they slowly passed me on the right hand lane (I only travel in the left lane when exiting ..... OF Course !)

The first comment was along the lines of "Why dont you get a decent clutch you wanker"....... but the second was even more hurtfull... "Hey mate.... is that the new Ford P76!"...... and for those of us who were old enough to be driving when that Leyland disaster was around you KNOW how bad that is.

Now if it had been a one off occurrence I would have put it down to something like a disgruntled holden driver being pissed off cause he had to drive around in a Ford because his own car was in being repaired (yet again) but twice in the one evening is too much.

My fear is that this is starting to drag on the F6 will really start to earn the rep as the P76 (mmmm similar names... OMG not just a model variant ). And of course there goes any resale value when its time to trade in.

Please Mr. Flint this has gone too long....... cant you just make an executive decision and either replace the manuals with the new ZF 6 gear auto, give us our money back. I did not spend nearly $60K of my hard earned just to buy the 2004 model variant of the P76

Stuff them all - you just enjoy blowing them all into the weeds when you have a few minor tweaks on your toy. There will always be some moron who will bag your pride and joy, who will coin scratch it in the parking lot, who will profess in depth knowledge of the latest model (handling, engine, etc), because they have read it in a book. Ha! Just because they read a porno does not make them good in bed. You have one of the best new cars around - I wish had one instead of an XR6T!

I agree with you - its been going on far too long. You also have to wonder about the pre-production testing. Supposedly FPV say they NEVER had a clutch problem in testing, yet within a couple of months the road cars are dropping like flies, some of them still being run-in! How can this be? Do they really HAVE a test program? I have been hanging out waiting for FPV to get their act together on the F6, but to be honest I am about ready to give up. I doubt I will feel confident buying any FPV product as long as David Flint is in charge. He just doesnt seem to have a clue - look at FPR - they are the joke of V8 supercars and now he's turning FPV into a joke

Ouch! That would hurt a fair bit, particularly the P76 comment. The guy in the EB is only biding his time, cause he has all the right credentials to be a Holden driver, probably VB/VC with hotwires, rattley 253 and custom exhaust. You know the ones.

You are right though, you would have to suspect that trade in prices for these beasties would be severly affected. I don't own one, but I would feel considerably let down by FPV if I did.

I wonder if they will follow Holden's lead and send you a rebate ala the Avalanche?

Man I'd know how you feel. This is the downside of being loyal you see, no matter what shit a car company gets into, you stay by them. Though i havent bought or owned a ford before, im only 19, this is seriously affecting my decision to ever buy one in the near future. My current car which my dad gave me (tho my decision) is a VT commodore, had the chance in getting an AU but i didnt choose it for obvious reasons, this is the stuff i hate about Ford not making the right decisions.
I've stayed with Ford, backed them up against my holden mates, and kept reading about em hoping some good news turns up, thing is there hasnt been any good news lately (except maybe the ZF box) and this is seriously killing me, and I'm sure all you other Ford peeps.
I'll still stay with Ford knowing that they have a good history and some good monsters overseas as well.
Let's just hope that fix does come in the near future, and next time you meet those f*gs in their EB's, show em whos boss
If I were you, I'd tell those EB peeps to stop being a tight ass and buy a car thats in the new century, not some 15yr old crap that (for me) doesnt turn heads.

Owning a Typhoon is an emotional rollercoaster. When she is running well your on a high but when the clutch packs it in your at an all time low. I have not had anyone call it a P76 yet but God help the first bloke who does.

After 4 months and 2 temp fixes I'm really getting really pi**ed off with the fact they can't give us a date for the final fix. I agree that its about time they either handed back our money, or fitted the ZF auto. Only problem with the ZF auto option would be the timing - probably have to wait longer than the mythical final fix.

Come on FPV - pull your heads out of the sand and get your act together. There are 80 very unimpressed Typhoon owners out there, many of which are starting to call for someones head.

Don't forget those who are having anxiety attacks because they want to buy one but can't. I have been told that my dealer can now take orders. But there will be no order placed until the car has be fixed and tested. It's too much money to blow on a lemon.

Id like to help him too! Help him onto a boat back to pommyland! Surely there is someone here who can do a better job than this. This is becoming an utter disgrace. Maybe he is getting backhanders from HSV? He surely couldnt do a worse job if he tried!

i think u guys are all missing the point here, ford didnt build the clutch someone else did, they didnt use 50 cars to test the clutch they wouldve used about 5 id say , as well this was a unique clutch made for the f6 so there was no previouse data apart from the the test cars.id doubt it would affect resale value cause of the fact ford called them back so soon so there wouldve only have been minimal cars with blown cluches .

by the way remind your hsv mate about piston slap and oil burning gen3's that'll shut him up

6 months has gone past. i'm not car engineer (but i am an IT engineer) so i can't say 100% i would have had it fixed already. BBBUUUUUUTTTTTTTT. we migrate companys entire networks australia wide over the weekend. IT'S A CLUTCH. can it really be so bad that they need 6 months+?!?! I would assume that there is more than one person working on this and that the people who suplied the twin plate clutch have sold that style of clutch before.

Christmas will be here soon. Will the typhoon be here soon?

I wouldn't mind one of these phone calls from david either. Not because i own a typhoon. but a would like 1st hand what the hell is going on. should i take my business elsewhere? i am nice guy. i promise i won't bite
