Has anyone had the final fix done for the clutch in the F6

Just wondering if anyone has had the final fix to be released into the production line for the F6. I am wanting to purchase one, but i a waiting to here from the existing owners in regards to what the fix is and if it really does fix the issues.

Also are there any disadvantages/advantages (besides the obvious of you can actually engage a gear now) with the fix or any other modification the ford may implement?

I spoke to FPV at the end of last week and they told me they have about another two weeks of testing to do before they are ready to release the permanent fix. He also mentioned that once FPV are satisfied with the replacement these would then have to be ordered so it could be another 2 weeks before they have sufficient in Australia to do the recall :(.

Mid May is my guess................ this goes on for much longer than that then they can put one of those six speed ZF autos in her :)

Mate, that sounds right, I was told the same story.

Cheers.

If you were looking to buy one, and were patient enough to wait, i'd wait for the 6 speed ZF gearbox is released, prolly early next year.

Might cost a little more, but what a weapon that car will be.

Clutch problem caused by harmonics

Hi all,

My friend was telling me last night that in the Australian Muscle car magazine they had an article regarding the F6 typhoon clutches. Has anyone read this, or has it been posted before?

Apparently, the cars in question have been tested in the UK and they have been found to be making an inaudible harmonic coming from the engine at around 4800 rpms. This is apparently the cause of the 'breaking circlip'. The problem is apparent because of the double plated clutch, and the need for this silly circlip. Furthermore, it is suggested that mo matter how big the circlip is and how strong it is, it will inevitably break.

Seems FPV are gonna have to replace the twin plate clutch with a single plated clutch, or removie the circlip from the design.

Anyone read this, or was it a late april fools on me?

Paul

Thumbs up Re: Has anyone had the final fix done for the clutch in the F6

Im not that patient. Although i guess i have been pretty patient so far as it was released last year and one of them still doesn't live in my driveway. Im like a little kid in a candy store, where's my tyza! I'm tempted to just go and order one anyway. But if the problem is just going to keep happening, what's the point. I'll have to settle for an XR8 or GT. I only want to buy one of these things, not two and then loose a lot of money. I think the worst part will be the wait after the order.

Interesting theory with the harmonics breaking the circlips. I wonder if there is going to even be a circlip in the revised clutch design.

Thanks for the info guys. Keep me posted on the progress.

PS. has anyone fitted the CAI, Exhaust and Sure shift to the typhoon? What was the results. ie. sound, performance, ease of use, fuel economy etc

Thanks Again!

Thats what they said about the 6 speed, but in standard form the XR6 T whoops it, however when they are edited the Typhoon becomes a real performance car.
As for the clutch issue what a fu#*&ing joke here we are 3 months later and still getting the "In another 2 weeks" crap, Flinty told me that 2 months ago. I don't think they are going to find any fix for a twin plate because of the harmonic vibration problem. Come on Flinty, throw the entire "comfortable and easy to drive twin plate" crap idea in the bin and give us some real clutches, you know the ones that never fail and hurt your left leg after you've been in traffic more than an hour. I don't think too many women are going to buy theses cars anyway. Personally after 3 months, loyal Ford supporter or not (I've bought 2 more new Fords since the Typhoon clutch failed), I am at the point where I'm going to wait till Friday next (8th) and then hand the whole thing over to my solicitor for some compensation. My legal advice is that getting some financial compensation will be like taking candy from a baby and I reckon 3 months is long enough for any person to wait. Just give us a clutch David please.

Yes doc, unfortunately I have to agree with you.... I forgot to mention in my previous post that this is the second time I have been given the "in two weeks time" story...... the last time I got it was this time LAST MONTH......

sheesh......

Temp fix? Bloody short term bandaid would be a better description. My F6 is in now for its 3rd clutch AND gearbox.

Flinty, how about shipping in 80 ZF 6 speed auto's and giving us loyal owners the option of changover to an auto? That would take this pain right out of all this for everyone. I like the sound of an F6 with the ZF auto and a paddle shit set up. Not too far fetched given they have the same auto box in the Aston Martins with paddles. But then again, maybe thats just a dream - like a correctly functioning clutch for the F6
