hi all im new to the forum but have been reading all the posts in here, anyway i've got a mk2 xr6t ute with an APS stage 2 in it which gave me 275kw at the wheels .
i raced a my99 rex the other day and we were pretty much neck to neck , the rex was also worked with 15 pounds of boost on it . i was a bit dissapointed coz i thought that I should blow him away , the only conclusion that i could come up with is to install a sedan diff ratio in my ute because theres atleast half a second to be gained in the ratios .
please help your opinion and advise is important to me .
and just for the record xr6t sedan 1/4 miles @ 14 sec flat or so , while the ute passes at about 14.8 or so {stock} , the only vehicle differences are the ratios and about 70kg the ute has on the sedan , 70kg would not cost a car 1 second hence it must be the ratios .
again please HELP .

i wouldnt use the 3.46 of the sadan i would use 3.7.
while the ute passes at about 14.8 or so {stock} ,
that cant be right as a mate of mine ran a 14.1 or something like that in his ute which is stock. by the way dont qoute me exactly on the times althoug i know it was lower that 14.8

I was under the impression that the reason the ute was slower over the 1/4 was coz of:
1 - lower diff ratios
2 - less weight over rear wheels; more traction problems

The XR6T Mk2 manuals has 3.7's (except the Utes). The Mk1 had 3.46.
Is yours an auto or manual? Generally speaking the XR6T auto's are faster.
my ute is manual i chose manaul coz its more fun to drive even if its gonna cost a loss of slight acceleration. so u reakon 3.7's is the way to go for better acceleration ??
i wanna redeem myself against the rex
The 3.7 would help a little for sure (a few tenths quicker), but you will get the best result by doing the diff gearing change as part of an APS edit update allowing for this on the EPU. Give Peter a call and talk to him about it.
Mate what model do you have? Mk1 all XR6 T have 3.46 sedan or ute, MkII all XR6 T have 3.73 sedan or ute. Don't change you diff gears you'll just light them up. The MkII only has shorter diff because the T56 6-soeed has taller ratios that are closer together. The overall gearing is much the same, in fact the first 4 gears I identical, I have seen them graphed. There is no gain.
The utes are not slow down the 1/4, whoever tested the utes in Motor must have changed gears vereeerrrrry slowly, or backed off halfway down the track. I ran a 14.7 but rolling, yes ROLLING off the line and flooring it, I woul dhave traveled 5 m before the turbo spooled and I still made 14.7! Thats faster then factory and Motor can do! What would happen if I nailed a launch? 14.3 most llikely.
Now, the same can be said about the sedan, its actually a 13.9 car, its piss easy to get low 14s, but you have to rape the shit out of it for a 13.9, but its there.
Now the utes are heavier, very much so, 70kg is not it. My hard cover weighs 70kg. Just to put it into perspective, fulled fueled turbo ute with hard cover, 1920kgs. How heavy are the sedans again? Not quite 1700? thats more the 200 big ones mate, damn near three. So there is your 3 tenths difference.
Also the live axel in the utes will hook up harder than the IRS in the sedans, remember you have more weight over the back wheels. You just need more grip now!

so your saying my main problem for better acceleration is the extra weight im carying {i also have hard cover} not the diff ratios.
hmm ... u make a good point , are you sure the ratios are the same ? coz when i purchased my ute {mk2} ford told me the utes are slower than sedans coz of the ratios . so who exactly is full of it now , maybe i should ask a holden dealer about ford ratios perhaps they would give me a straight answer lol
