Minor Boost Tweaks
Today the curiousity become too much (again). We had tried to increase boost previously, but were unsuccessful.
Armed with the knowledge of the article in the latest ZOOM magazine (hitting stores ne day now), a turbosmart pneumatic boost bleeder and an extremely accurate workshop boost guage (accurate down to 0.02bar) we got to work.
Firstly some base readings were taken. Boost was found to reach a maximum of 0.42bar with the stock boost control in place.
The boost control valve is mounted in the hose running from the pressure side of the turbo to the factory boost sensor (little grey device beside the battery).
We slowly opened the valve (testing at each increment) until we hit the harsh cut out employed by the ECU at 0.54bar.
Turning the controller back slightly has given us a maximum boost of 0.52. (While only being an increase of 0.1bar, on this vehicle this is almost a 25% increase)
Unfortunately all testing was done on the road (our appologies to the neighbours), however with this seemingly very small boost increase, our BUM Dyno (seat of the pants) registers a noticable increase in torque and some added fun factor.
I imagine this simple and undetectable (easy to remove for servicing) mod will become a popular one due to its ease and inexpensive nature.
