Selling the XR6T to buy a GT; l think l’ll wait for the SMS in October.
It has proved much more difficult than l ever expected to sell the XR6T for what l think is a reasonable price given all its options, we are down to $45500 with virtually no interest! l think l will give it another week and then cancel the GT order and hang onto it until early next year.
From all l have read mainly here, it seems almost a certainty if you can believe what you read, that FPV will appear at the Sydney Motor Show this year with a warmed version of the T6. Rumors suggest in excess of 270kw/502nm with an improved manual gearbox and body kit long the lines of that on the GT. Price $55-57k. If this does happen, imagine the performance it will be capable of, l reckon 5.6 0-100 and maybe 13.6 qtrs. It will be a real aussie M3/M5 equivalent and go close to being Australia’s fastest ever production car. AWESOME. Option it up and for $65k you will have a full house potential GT eater.
Which then of course makes you wonder where all this leaves the GT. The cheapest car in the range will have the ultimate performance, and be quicker than Fords sacred nameplate, the GT. I feel it will devalue the GT and hurt resale badly, alienating a lot of owners in the process. Of course, a better GT will come along in time, but possibly only matching the FPV T6 anyway. l don’t know why Ford would want to do it, but come the end of the year l think l might be putting my hand up for one.
More performance, a better manual box and GT looks. What a car. Bring it on!!!
l am a V8 fan and would love a GT, but this car might just ease my pain of passing on the GT for now.

It's really hard to tell how and if Ford do release an FPV 6t what will come of the GT ,just look at the potential of the 5.4 (the U,S version's)some of them run 10 sec qtr's, we havn't seen a forced induction 5.4 yet in Aussie,so if they do run with the idea of an FPV 6T, I'm sure we will see a 5.4 s/c just like in the state's,maybe GTHO,but one thing is for sure the future for performance Ford's in Aussie is only going to get stronger.

I would love to see the ideas you talk about come to reality but it doesn't really make any sense for Ford to do so (as you already hinted at in your post)
This subject is a little tired (ie...GTHO/FPV 6T speculation) but hey it's always fun to dream.
My guess is that there will never be a GTHO by that name. A psycho V8 by another name, yes.
FPV6T would make GT and GT-P look archaic, like the current XR6t is doing to the XR8...
Maybe it won't kill sales but having your own products in direct competition seems a bit illogical and will inevitably end up with one of the models dropping off in demand...
(on that note, can anyone tell me the current backlog/waiting period for an XR8)

Backlog? That's funny. At the moment XR8's aren't exactly selling up a storm although you have to look very deep into the VFACTs figures to find those numbers.
In Mexico dealers have already started distressing XR8's to well below the RRP (have seen them as low as $48k + stamps with leather and sound) and I'd be tipping that we'll see a lot more of that.
Sad really but it's what happens when you provide a cheaper model that has equal, if not better, performance.

I think you will find the BOSS engines may receive a power update in 2004 combined with newly introduced FPV T6 and XR6T's. I'm not willing to speculate how much new go they will get, but I'm pretty sure it will be enough to keep them at least level pegging with the Turbo 6's. Supercharging on the BOSS FPV range is a given IMO and I'm not referring to a GTHO.
CAPA has already stated that the BOSS 290 as well as the 260 is very well suited to supercharging and can achieve close to 400kw with only 5psi of boost!! Sounds similar to XR6T turbo story with its 6psi don’t you think. Very easy, cost effective, warranty-effective….

I think if FPV modify the XR6T, it will gain some weight too.
The heaver transmission, interior etc.
Probably a weight increase not unlike the one from the XR8 to the GT. And thats not including the increase in weight of the better manual transmission. I think that will keep the a FPV Turbo 6 honest.
