SS and XR6T race...

just got off the phone to a mate of mine that is a mechanic at a ford dealership up here in brisbane, they had a BA training night tonite and the lecturer told them down south somewhere the cops put a VX SS (5.7) and a XR6T on a dragstrip, both standard except the XR6t had a bigger than standard intercooler (fitted by the cops i dunno why)

at the end of the strip the XR6T was 5 CARLENTGHS ahead of the SS!!!!!!!! he couldnt remember the times they ran but thats not as important, cause THE BARRA WON!!!!

im stoked, but i would have prefered the BA to be standard, but you get that.

he also said that its very hard to change boost levels on the XR, you need to reprogram the chip or get a unichip maybe.

bugger, no buggarising with the wastegate he reckons...and also the computer logs a code if boost exceeds 6psi, so no 15psi *BANG* - quick remove the aftermarket chip before the towtruck gets here - "yeah, um, ford? my car just blew up for no reason...""thats ok sir we will get that rebuilt for you under warranty no worries!"

just though you might like to know about the real world accelation advantages of a force fed 6...

Thats great but the xr is modified and the SS is the old version, we want to see BA XR6T vs VY SS.

prob the best oppotunity to see details about the two dragging each other, will be in next months Wheels mag, when they will compare each model from the new Falcon lineup, with its corresponding Holden counterpart.

Who cares if it wasn't VY SS.. The only real difference between the two is the 10kW difference which would be very hard to notice... And the 'slight' aerodynamic gain in the VY would be offset by it's increased weight. It still comes down to the XR6T beating the snot out of the SS.

now the difference is only 5kw...nothing to get too excited over is it? In reality its pretty much the same... Like you wouldn't say a Holden 225kw would leave a Barra 220kw for dead?

yes Chevy but the did say that the boost was upped a bit.
I don't think there will be much in it down the drag strip but who cares even if the SS wins by a hairs breath it's still a high tech 4L against a lowtech poxy 5.7L

Take the "poxy" statement out and it's the truth.
