Thumbs up typhoon intake manifold

Has anybody heard of the 'typhoon intake manifold' for 5ltr windsors?

Apparantly they are very similar to the edelbrock performers and flow similar. They have the same removable plenum cover. They come in a satin finish or chrome finish. Their not a staggered port design though. They are advertised on pg 97 of the September edition of Street Machine.

The cost: Satin Finish - $745 Chrome Finish - $949

Not a bad price considering the price of some of the other manifolds out there.

Check these sites out:

Re: typhoon intake manifold

From what i have heard, they are a cheap and nasty copy of the edelbrock manifolds. They are poor quality and have alignment issues...

Re: typhoon intake manifold

Yes this has been bought up on www.corral.net They are deff cheap but work ok.Have to check clearances etc from memory the cover plate is rounded / bolged out on the cover where Edelbrock is straight.I guess they had to change something to avoid copywrite??

Re: typhoon intake manifold

On their sites, they say that the Edelbrock top and bottoms are all interchangable with the typhoon manifolds.

The only 2 places that sell them in SA are Outlaw and Sawka's. I rang Outlay, they wanted $1000 for the satin finish. Sawka's probably don't sell the EFI ones, I don't think they sell anything Ford.

Re: typhoon intake manifold

yeah Sawka's are pro holden. You seen the Chev pickup the dude owns? That things got massive tubs!

Once again it will depend on who has one and what they think of it!

They are a "performer rpm" manifold copy with the 1500-6500 rpm rev range.
I also considered this manifold, but not having the setup for that rev range I would not be happy with the low rev performance.
Now considering the edelbrock "performer 5.0" manifold,
(1500-6000rpm),probably the best street manifold available IMO.

Re: typhoon intake manifold

That Chev is a blown 454, it's his daily driver no joke.

Hey Aaron did Outlaw say why they marked up the manifold by $250?

Re: typhoon intake manifold

Nah, I didn't bother to ask them, either. I should have. It's a fair price hike, coz you can get an Edelbrock manifold from VPW for $1000

A workmate was telling me, years ago, he went to Sawka's and asked them to build him a 351, they laughed, and said they only do chev, holden and chrysler. So my mate and someone he knows built it themselves, and one day at AIR he pulled up next to Sawka's car (Chev motor in HQ I think), and beat him twice!!

Re: typhoon intake manifold

yeah. I find that weird too Aaron. I think Outlaws are trying to cash in on unsuspecting buyers!

As dodgie said, It would probably be best to get the edelbrock 5.0 performer manifold instead for a street engine.

Have you thought about doing some mild porting of your stock manifolds? If your not planning on going spastic on ya engine, it maybe the next best thing for a street motor.
