ZOOM Magazine said recently that the note was noy unlike a late model Supra's, only deeper due to the bigger capacity of the Ford 6. Having heard a mate's Supra equipped with an exhaust, I have to say it's gotta be a good sound!!!!
I gotta say, when you get to drive, your smile will be wider than a fat womans crack!
Lol! Nice quote! Not sure if it's true or not though.
Now, back to the 'T' - they sound fantastic. In stock form, they sound better than most modded 6 cylinder cars with big exhausts. Skyline/Supra would be close.

When I was at my local dealer on the weekend, I heard a car start up and it sounded really throaty and deep,to which I thought was an 8, but when I walked around to have a look to my surprise it was a XR6 T ute,not bad for a stock exhaust.

I heard an XR6 Turbo Ute the other day and it had quite a burble, a good burble. Not quite V8 sounding, but not your usual barky Torana XU1 or Hemi Charger sound either.
