Having a manual Turbo, I love the car, but the driveline has more clunks and noises than a tractor. I had a manual VYSS with the same problem.
In another web forum 80% of manual XR6T owners complained about this "driveline snatch" as some call it.
It's very annoying, and if I had my choice again, I would seriously consider the auto. Why can't Australian Manufactures build a smooth driveline for a high powered manual?
Can you explain the Driveline snatch?
i' have an Auto.. present there too?
feels smooth to me, sometimes forgets to change gear and remembers a little later tho

In the words of a motoring journalist "The standard BTR T5 5-speed manual gearbox whines and growls while, out back, the diff clunks and snatches as you get on and off the power. With barely 4,000 kilometres on the clock of our test car we can't help wonder how tired it'll feel at, say, 40,000 kays. Lucky there's a 3-year/100,000-kilometre warranty... "
Automatics tend to cushion the driveline when you get on and off the power, so it tends not to be as noticiable. Basically, unless to match the revs absolutely perfectly, you will get the dreaded clunk on gearchances, particularly down changes, but even driving slowly in first gear, if you back off the accelerator you can get the clunk, and then if you put the power on (even being gentle), you get another clunk, in both cases not touching the clutch.
It just feels like there is a lot of slack in the diff or driveline, and the clunk is the noise you get, as it takes up the slack.
Doesn't always do it, just often enough to be pretty annoying
Why XR6T over XR8? Like a lot of others Turbo;down to dollars.Which is the best car?If your going to own for a lot of years: XR8,if not the XR6T is the throwaway car.

As much as anyone I love the sound of a good V8, and there are plenty of F100's that sound great. But..., the main reason I bought a XR6t over an XR8 is that I was looking to purchase a rear drive Ford sedan with Stunning Performance.Full stop! (Something vertually unobtainable not so long ago!!!)
The Turbo does exactly that, while being cheaper to Buy and insure, (for me at least) better handling, (an ounce of handling is worth a Ton of Horsepower: age-old saying) and just more of a "rush". Plenty of street cred as well; you could'nt say that about an XR8. The best bit is Holden doesn't make anything like it, and it just blows away XR8's!
(Note to XR8 & V8 owners in general; NO disrespect intended, just facts.)
In standard trim gar80t, I wouldn't say 0.2 of a second (14.1 vs 14.3, both MOTOR) is blowing an Xr8 away. There's nothing in it really and they both provide their own unique driving experience. IMO the Xr8 with it's sound, bonnet and top end surge does pretty damn well in the street cred stakes game.
Where the Turbo has the advantage (ATM) is tuning potenial, now that's just facts.
Having said that, I take nothing away from the Xr6T. It really is a fantastic car.
Maybe among die hard car nuts Venom, but I have to say that the average person IMO just see the car and the questions and kind comments fly. Many mention how the XR6 is nice but too common. The XR8's and GT's are associated more with the Australian Muscle car IMO.
I had a AUIII XR8 and it was a difficult choice between the BA XR6T and XR8. In the end I went for the XR6T. It's very difficult to justify an extra $5K for a slower car. The auto Turbo is quicker than the auto XR8. I do miss the sound and the down low torque of a V8 though. Maybe if ford starts fitting the GT running gear to the XR8 I will once again drive a V8.
