I think the XR6 T is going to be like those VL commodore turbo things and the XR8 is not going to sell more than the XR6 T especially in the utes

Not until someone figures out how to crack the computer, it wont allow anymore boost than 6psi and 450Nm. Increase the boost and it starts dropping back the timing and shuts down cylinders.

And since everything from Cam timing to cruise control is reliant on the computer it will be while before we see any quick XR6Ts out there.....

I cant think of another car out there thats this restricted?

It would have been nice if Ford oz made the XR6T as easy to mod and bullet proof as the 2003 Mustang Cobra, those things are already running 10 sec 1/4, stock internals, gearbox, diff etc....

Ford have obviously made it had to crack for a reason. Maybe somebody from Ford could enlighten us. I have a very strong feeling that it is related to the XR8 and the amount of XR8 owners that would get just slightly pissed off getting thrashed by a 12psi boost XR6T

No.

The reason in simple - drivetrain longevity and development costs. There is no way known to mankind that Ford could sell a 12psi turbo XR6 for $44,000. The turbo XR6 has been engineered to meet stringent regulations and production criteria, and for it to meet these, and to be running reliably at 12psi, would cost both Ford and the customer a right royal packet!

(That's not to say that an XR6 Turbo running at 12psi couldn't mop the floor with a stock XR8 - it would be putting out some hefty figures!)

Ford fans are truly blessed AT LAST. We have now got not one but TWO Aussie icons in the making. Whatever you choose you will not be disappointed - the greatest sounding V8 we've ever had in OZ - and now a turbo 6 that really motors. Life is good. I'll have one of each please.

Maybe I am getting slower with age but all this talk about increasing the performance of the XR6T is baffling. For goodness sake this thing pulls nearly 13sec quarters out of the showroom.
That is bloody awesome, not too many stock cars besides the exotics have this performance.
Guys get real, sorry about the rant.
