Has anyone heard of one of the 4.0 litre factory turbo ford engines being used for an engine conversion?

I know there are a lot of Jap engines - including some decent turbo sixes - to choose from for an engine swap but I'm curious if the xr6-turbo engine has found a new home in anything smaller/lighter.

Can anyone give approximate dimensions?

Also, does anyone know how complex the auto is in these cars - ie, whether it would be thrown out by being in a far lighter car?

I cant see it being a problem being transplanted into a smaller car, in fact if I had the spare $ around I would put one in a TE of TF cortina, straight swap for the 4.1lt 6 in them, and would that be a good car

I'm interested in doing something like this as well. Ideally I'd like to find something out of a manual Typhoon as I like the 6-speed manual and I figure the auto would be a nighmare to get working properly.

I've had a bit of a look around online but they don't seem to be exactly thick on the ground. Next on my list of options is the Toyota 1JZ-GTE but I'd much prefer to keep the blood lines pure, if you get my meaning.

Anyone have any tips on where I should be looking for a turbo 6 powerplant? It would be much appreciated.

I have seen a Focus that is XR6T powered. It was up for auction a while ago and had been used in a Targa rally and a few club races.

From memory it had 500 hp or thereabouts.

They would be the Nissan 4.5L V8, right? They are nice engines but I think they might be a little too wide across the heads to fit in what I've got in mind. I'll check them out though.

I have also considered a Toyota 1UZ-FE as they are Tonka tough, relatively cheap and Sprintex make a great little blower kit to really get them up and running (used on the Bullet Roadster SS). I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that any quad-cam V8 will be a bit too wide to fit between the chassis rails of a '68 Mustang.

Then again these could accept a 390 big block so they might be OK.

I'll secure the car first then I'll go a-hunting with tape measure in hand.
