I was wondering if anyone could help explain this problem that my mates XR6T has encountered?

Its an Auto, and when its in the sequencial shift mode, a couple of times when shifting from 4 to 3 and from 3 to 2, the engine has shut down!!! Its happened twice now!

He said the 'D' symbol is flashing on the gear selection monitor when this occurs, he has his foot totally off the throttle (as you would normally do downshifting).

It seems theres something seriously wrong, as i know with my XR6T auto, when i try and downshift if the RPM are too high it wont let me do it! (saves redlining the engine and reducing the risk of compression lockup i guess!!!)

Has anyone else encountered such a problem, and what do you guys think may be the cause of it!?

If the D is flashing, it implies that the transmission is overheating.

Sh*t! he better get it looked at asap! Its definately given him a rush, like once when he pulled out to overtake another car at about 120 and as soon as he changed down she turned off! Not my idea of a fun!
