I was just reading on Http://www.goauto.com.au about the new engines. this comment makes me alittle pissed off, but where there is a will there is a way. Anyone got any views on this.

".. Ford has also paid attention to anti-tampering devices to prevent modification of the turbo, while reliability testing of all new engines is said to have included a 600-hour high-speed cycle test and exceeded the equivalent of 10 years or 150,000km.."
Why should ford have to warrant cars which people have tampered with to get more power out of them?
They do testing of a car to a particular level, if the owner of the car wants to fiddle and give the car more power than ford should be able to tell and void their warranty it as simple as that.
I expect they have programmed the ECU to operate at a max boost figure - if this is exceeded by someone tampering with the wastegate, the ECU will simply not supply enough fuel to the motor.
Any manufacturer like FoMoCo has to do this to protect the warranty they offer and to appease the insurance companies - otherwise insurance would probably be next to impossible to get.
Of course, you might put an aftermarket ECU or a piggy-back ECU to overcome the anti-tamper device but you will definitely incur the wrath of the insurance company if you are ever unlucky enough to make a claim - same with a warranty claim eg on the T5 gearbox which is about at it's limit.
Does anyone know what the max pressure of the turbo is. but its no different if i buy a WRX and take it to a place and get them to trick it rite up. if it melts, its my bad luck.
so it is abit unfair to the person who abides by the rules
he does not do anything to the car for three years so he does not lose his warranty, then after it expires he decides to mod, but he cannot tune his car because ford has anti-tampering devices.
understand they have to protect themselves, but if you mod a car and it voids your warranty then so be it, you should have read the fineprint.
Yea, but all you'd have to do is put a piggyback unit on the ECU, get a new ECU or fiddle around with it a bit. It wouldn't be a 100% no modifications at all thing.

yeah bro i was reading today the turbo is a garrett turbo and its running on 6psi so plenty of room for improvement but its still pushing out 240kw imagine the possibilities.
Originally posted by Road Warrior I wonder if you fitted an intercooler whether that would void the warranty (leaving the boost alone, just adding a 'cooler).
Sorry, They've beaten you to it. Intercooler is std.:oo1:
