Hi,

I was wondering how wide spread the issue of excess oil consumption is with XR6 Turbo's. My Mk11 is using a considerable amount of oil. It has been in to the dealer a number of times over the past few months for checks and top-ups and Ford has been notified through some dealer process.

Ford has not yet got back to my dealer with an answer and when I took it in again this morning I was told that they would contact Ford yet again and that they had at least 3 other turbo's with the same problem.

I was not happy with this since a friend blew up his turbo engine as a result of a lack of oil.

Is this as common as my dealer indicates??

i dunno how common it is, but jst topped mine un yesterday. only got 6500 on it!! dot think thats normal. i know heaps of the ss's had this problem, the gen 3 i think, holden was replacing engines all over the place!

I've got over 20k on mine and hasn't needed a drop. Cheers.

Just hit 27000kms in xr6t and used maybe 250ml

Conan (and others) thanks for the feedback. My last check had me using a little over 200ml in about 2500km. Ford have said that this is within specifications. Hiowever, consumption prior to this was almost a litre and a half in about 5,000km. Ford are also suggesting that the usage is dropping, but I think it relates to driving habits eg, most of the last 2,500kms have been around town and the previous heavy usage was open road mileage. Anyway, off for a trip this weekend and will see what happens to the consumption.
