Does anyone out there think that the xr6 turbo could become almost a cult car , like the VL turbos did? Now, lets face it, the VL turbo was a popular car. Why? Because it was workable as all f*@k and proved to be pretty bullet proof as they have been around for years. You don't see as many on the road as there was about 5 odd years ago (I dare say that the influx of all imports has made a difference).
I just want to know what you guys out there think!
p.s Cool forum. I never would've known about it if it wasn't for the papers showing leaked photo's of the VY with the fordforums.com URL in the top left hand corner
I think the volume performance model sales wise will be the XR6T. Without a shadow of a doubt. Possibly the cult car of this decade, depending on what GT does.
I don't think people can do a direct comaprison with the VL Turbo though as the VL is 14 years old & lacking some technology compared to BA.
I heard Holden are bringing out a turbo for the VYII...XR6t cant be a cult car because holden will compete aswell (actually - they'll both be cult cars come 2015.. whereas there was nothing in production to compete with the VL turbo.
i can't see holden bringing out a turbo. They weighed there options up years ago and decided the best way to go was supercharging the motor. Why would they change now.

I've heard that too Chubbz. I have a friend working at holden who tells me that the vyII will get a turbo, all alloy new v6, and 5 speed auto. Probably all wheel drive too as they have an association with subaru.
But, look at the WRX and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions series, NISSAN SKYLINE GTRS (which I absolutely lust for, let me tell you). they are considered by some as cult cars. I can't see why there can't be two (OR MORE) players on the market.
The next 12 - 18 months will be a very interesting time in the australian car market. Where in the world would you have this much public excitement about 4 major manufacturers, (ie. FORD, HOLDEN. TOYOTA AND MITSUBISHI) all releasing their new or updated models in the same freakin' year???!!!!
Wouldnt V engines be easier to twin turbo? I would actually be supprised if Holden didn't turbo thier V6. They will need to keep up with out IL6 Turbo and make anew performance XU6 (or whatever it will be called) for HSV.

Turbocharging a v6 engine will require a twin setup. You'll find that this is almost impossible to setup under a holden bonnet. so my guess is that holden will not introduce turbochargers, rather stick to supercharging.
This is a huge advantage for FORD. A turbocharged setup will always be a lot better in all aspects (reliability, economy and performance.)
The VL required extensive work for (approx $10,000) to achieve over 300kw. Based on what I've read here 180kw naturally aspirated and 240kw @ 6psi...the xr6 is going to be a big hit. Small mods, exhaust and boost increase approx 12psi (the current level of stnd wrxs) should see this baby produce over the 300kw figure, providing it has a good set of injectors. My guess is about 350kw @ 12psi.
stick in forgies, programmable ecu, injectors and crank the boost to 20psi ...approx 500kw. try and get an everyday v8 to produce this sort of power.
A naturally aspirated 180kw 4.0 + turbo (not just an ordinary turbo but a GT40) - holy sh&# this is going to be one crazy street car.
cult car of the century.
I'll be interested to know what size injectors are fitted standard?
