Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

You know...i felf a bit 'ricey' fitting it...but it is a turbo...and i say why not make it sound like one.

Can i reduce the flutter by adjusting the BOV....as mine is fully adjustable. How hard should i have it set?

Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

The fluttering sound isn't the valve, its the compressor surge. When the valve opens it lets boosted air into the vacuum side of the turbo so the compressor - which was sucking air and pulling hard - slips as the compressed air passed through, like an out board when it cavitates after passing through wash or moving water, and because the air is turbulent it flutters.

If you wind the BOV all the way to full vent, and you have properly adjusted your spring rate it will open once, stay open and slowly close. It shouldn't bounce our you are defeating the purpose of having the valve. It will open and shut and send shockwaves of air backwards through the intake.

When I had my BOV on full vent there was no compressor surge, just a short loud woosh!, and then nothing. Now I have 8psi and full plumb back and you get the fluff fluff fluff sound 10 times more than before.

Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

Thanks for filling me in Yoot.

It sounds like I have it adjusted correctly anyway.

I've noticed no surge.

Escellent - they have a pretty big margin, I've never actually heard of it bening a problem before.

Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

Yeah the Turbosmart guys pretty well reassured me that it was a fool-proof mod.

I actually gained 1.2kw on the dyno after fitting the BOV kit....but i'm pretty sure the only reason that happened is because of how fussy I was to make sure there were absolutely no leaks.
I put the BOV on after 80kms prior to my last service and dyno run....and i think one of the morons in the workshop didn't re-tighten my intake piping clamps back onto the turbo too well. You could see where it was set from the factory...and the pipe was sticking out a good half inch from the silicon connector.
Not good!

Thanks for your help bud.

Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

Just put on a kompact dual port (turbosmart). Probably as loud as I would want to go. 15min install and no affect on drive performance. Hard to spot too which is good. Dont know if i'll keep it on there. But i can put on/take off as I please........like when i'll be getting a new engine under warranty next week!!! (uses more oil than fuel!!!).

Re: XR6t Blow off Valves

Does anyone know if placing a BOV in a new car can void the warranty? (Ford BF XR6T).

Also, does anyone know where's a good place to have a new customised bonnet done in Brisbane? Cheers!
