XR6T - how strong is the auto?

Guys, any idea as to how much horsepower these things can handle (stock &/or modified)? Looks like the manual is out for me as it will go "bang" with the mods I will be doing.

Ive heard the Auto is pretty strong and good for around 400kw (flywheel). It is basically the main trans Ford wish to push, especially in the XR6T. A close friend of mine has driven the both the manual and auto XR6T, and was much happiler with the auto performance.

Apparently yes and I am a manual man myself. The turbo and the torque band actually work better with the nature of the auto. Now with the new sports shift as well, there's much fun to be had.

The manual is still good, but the gear changes are slower than the auto especially when this baby really starts to wind up.

What I recommend, drive them both.

if it were 4wd yes it wud (but only really if it hadda heavyduty clutch, as hd clutches are designed to slip to save gearboxes).
Borg Warner diff assemblies will handle in excess of 400fwkw if built right. Ditto for the lsd assy, but burnouts or serious circuit work will shorten lsd's effective life.

Actually the auto is half a sec slower due probably to greater friction in the box and greater weight but you could soon make up for that with a lower (speed) diff ratio, say 3.73, - the auto box has more in reserve than the manual.
