Deisel Turbo??

I checked out the tubo specs on the garrett website www.egarrett.com.au.

"GT30-GT45 Garrett turbochargers are designed for commercial diesel engine applications rated from 200 hp to 600 hp. They are typically installed in engines used in on-highway and off-highway vehicles, construction equipment, farming, marine and stationary applications. "

Aparently in a diesel engine the turbo is rated to about 275kw.

Not sure about petrol tho.

Tickford6 - turbine housing looks way big compared to a T3, + its ball-bearing hence the quick spool (in conjunction with 4litres of exhaust fumes to spin the thing). Ford probably could have got the same figures from a higher stressed small (ie cheaper) turbo but its great to see they spent $$ on a unit that can flow heaps of power & is relatively unstressed for the application => check the compressor maps on the web for a GT40, love to see the horsepower at 20psi!!

slapper, you're right - It's big, but loks small. The GT 40 is apparently rated at 600 hp (petrol revs more, probably also has T series compressor housing)! You'd need new rods and crank, but pretty cheap mod. Look out skylines!
Anyone heard anything about the BOV? Does it have one (probably considering 6 lb)? It's probably tiny, and if they know what they're doing it will be plumbed back into the inlet manifold a la subaru. Still map sensed software yeah? The last thing we need are more daily drivers going vwhoooooo PSSSHHHHHT!

Never know, the old VL could hack 500HP with std crank, pistons & rods provided the fuel & engine mgt system were up to the task (any detionation & bang!)- hopefully the new engine should cop this level of power & more!

Unfortunately I think there will be a LOT of pssshhhtttt noises from new Falcon's, particularly when they go around the V8's like they're standing still! Nothing is quite as satisfying as blowing the doors off a 300kw HSV with a 6 cylinder turbo (did this heaps with my old VLT).

at full throttle a bit of pssshhhhhttt is ok - expected even, kind of like a reward :s6:, but venting at 1500 rpm turns parking into a puffing billy ride. It's not a ricer!
The air should be vented into the plenum anyway, not the atmosphereand wasted. It's not developing that much boost.

Tongue

absolutely! Ricers suck as do loud BOV's, always run mine back into the intake although I'm in the minority. Ricers around my area are going to pay once I buy one of these babies & have it modded!!
