I am thinking of selling the AU forte and upgrading to an XR6T. Been for a test drive and really liked it, the price wasn't too bad either.
Just wondering if I could get your opinions of things you particuarly like/don't like about your XR6T. Also if you could give me an idea of the deal you got just to get a feel for what a good deal is at current.
Got quoted $46K with sunroof, leather and premium sound system. Is this a good price?
And please don't respond with the typical "just get the XR8", not interested as it's a work car and will be used in traffic so the V8 thirst rules it out as does the extra cost.

TheBow> OK, you say you want fuel economy so the XR8 is out of the equation. That's fair enough as long as you realise the XR6T will use virtually the same amount of fuel if you are using it's power - there's only 20kw difference. Also, if you are considering the auto then forget fuel economy for the turbo - only the manual is able to be driven economically and will be a better option economywise than the XR8.
Its not what you want to hear but l agree with the others, an XR8 wont use much if any more fuel than the XR6T and l think you would be able to get one for not much more than an XR6T. They are less popular so negotiating a substatial discount should be possible.
l had an XR6T and sold it to buy a GT. l liked everything about it except the driveability down low, not very responsive below 2500rpm. if you are used to the torque of an 8 then the XR6T may be a disappointment for that reason, as it was for me. Resale on the XR8 may be better too as a 3yr old turbo may have a question mark over its future maintenance/repair costs.
l wouldnt count the XR8 out of the running, you should try and get a drive of both.
On the fuel consumption thing..the guys over at xr6turbo.com seem to be getting 12-14l/100 with normal driving. Of course if you are gunning it all the time it will use heaps, nothing unexpected.
If my AUIIXR8 is anything to go by the 5.4 is going to be similar ie - 18-20l/100kms so I don't think you can say you are going to get that economy out of an 8 in traffic. If this is the case then I'm taking my ute down to get a brand new BAXR8 ute today..
On the dealer price of around $46K with options stated..he said he had done them for that much so obviously the implication is that he can do it for that much for us otherwise what's the point in saying something like that.
On the quote the car was listed at $41K befoire on roads so maybe there has been a price adjustment. We were talking about a $9K discount though. Perhpas it has something to do with the 2003 runout?
