xr6t power limit

was in at the dealers the other day getting a problem with my car fixed. Anyhow, got talking to the head mechanic for about an hour about all things BA - he told me that 1) the engine computer would NEVER be cracked (only piggybacked) and that 2) the power limit of an Xr6T is approx. 340fwkw. After that the little ends go. HE said however that as long as you pay attention to internals then you can go higher in power.

im sure he knew what he was on about as they apparently had recently stripped an XR6T engine and found the internal problems (it was modded).

Most Ford Cars here in the states that I know of can only be piggy backed and not recalibrated such as GM cars. That is why I have a secondary Computer for the car already flashed and set for my keychip.

So this head mechanic is also a well-respected and proven tuner? Somehow I doubt that..

Firstly, there is software to tune the Blackwood ECU, available overseas and for some time. It's the same ECU as used in the European Mondeo and Focus. It will need to be adapted to the BA, (assuming that Ford Aus hasn't done this already), so that is hardly what one could consider as "NEVER be cracked".

Secondly, to put his finger on a particular figure as being THE LIMIT, is just plain silly. Has he tuned several turbos that have hit this so-called "limit", or is he talking from "I think" experience?

So basically what I'm saying is don't believe everything you hear. Until there is SUBSTANTIAL and WIDELY PROVEN evidence, then his claims have NO foundation.

I'm not even going to speculate on the maximum power issue, as I'm not qualified as a proven tuner! And anyway, I'd be more concerned with the maximum gearbox lifespan first...

I also find this hard to believe. At this point in time all vehicles with reported engine concerns are having thier engines replaced and are not allowed to be dissassembled "in house" at dealerships. All displaced units are sent back to the engine plant for assessment. They would have contacted Ford and been instructed to do only minor dissassembly(rocker cover, valve train and front timing cover only). As MR SPARKLE said "dont beleive everything you hear". Specially a dealership technician who is going to divulge such info.
