Maybe the XR6 Turbo is lighter, cheaper, and better suited to a road course than a GT. They can always whack the boost up relatively easily to get more power if they want.

Being in tassie I have seen quite a bit about targa tas. From that I can tell you that handling in targa tas is almost everything. From memory a lotus elise (I think) came third a few years back and it only had a small 4 banger with around 100hp. Weight is also important as I believe that Jim Richards chose a RWD Porsche over a GT3 which is AWD because of the extra weight that the AWD brought with it. Also you don't need to be the fastest, you just have to be consistent, in all conditions, which we have a few of .
