Re: XR6T V's XR8

I had a 5 speed Turbo, and now a 6 speed XR8. I agree with most above, the Turbo feels faster (and "is" significantly so in in-gear acceleration) handles better (doesn't feel as heavy) and is cheaper.

The XR8 particularly with the bonnet bulge, and standard 18" wheels (on Mark II), looks and sounds better, but that's about it.

Both of mine have come standard with driveline shunt, so they are equal on that score. And that's the only real negative, for both cars. Both are fun, enjoyable cars in their own way.

But for the keen driver, I would always go for the Turbo. (I only got this Xr8 because I can get them cheap, and am taking a punt on better resale in 9 months time).

Re: XR6T V's XR8

I have a 6 spd xr8 and havent lost to a turbo yet. Rolling start or standing. Lots of people belive that the turbo;s are quicker when in fact their not in standard form. Whats the quickest a stock turbo has gone down the strip in, iv'e seen a 14.o2 and haven't heard of a stock car going faster EVER. Members of this forum and the other one have gone 13.8 with a stock xr8.

Mate the only thing i would like from my xr8 is a little more bottom end power and that would make an excellent stock car. Once the APS edit comes out that'll take care of that till i head for some real power. There's plenty of mods out for the 8's now and very very soon you'll see the big heavy 8's running the same numbers as 6t's.

I am not going to turn this into a shit fight but I havn't lost to an XR8 and my ute weighs 1920kgs. Maybe my Turbo is fitter than most.

Its probably driver vs driver.

Re: XR6T V's XR8

Yea very true what the turbo lacks in output (which isn't much) to the xr8 it makes up for it in weight and the diff ratio. Is yours auto or manual YOOT. Its the same as racing a Vy SS, it all comes down to the driver iv'e beaten an auto ss and a manual ss. Change of driver in the manual and i got beaten by half a length. If you can get these cars off the line in a hurry they really get up and move.

Re: XR6T V's XR8

Hate to generalise, but around town and short traffic light runs (up to 60 of course), there is nothing in it in terms of acceleration from a XR6T vs XR8 vs GT vs SS vs SV8 vs XTV8 vs Clubsport vs F6. Even a good driver behind a N/A XR6 (or XT) and SV6 won't let you get too far off into the distance. Only on a race track will you see who has the advantage.

Why can't car Magazines get close to a 13.8 in an standard XR8? Every comparison I have read, the 8 is slower than the turbo, admittedly not by a huge amount.

In gear, particularly the higher gears, the turbo is heaps quicker, which if you drive a manual, is the difference between having to change gears in the 8, or just staying in the gear you are in the turbo. This would suggest a rolling start between a turbo and 8 would give the advantage to the turbo, unless the 8 just happened to be right in the meat of it's rev-range.

Re: XR6T V's XR8

lol from my last post i said i prefer the turbo but i wnet for a test drive in both and thought they where both extremely cheap and crappy looking interior without the luxury pack lol man those seats r just straight and simply so ugly

the only car in the falcon range standard with nice high quality interior is the fairmont ghia
