a mate was test driving a new VX SS (yes he loves commos) a little while ago along a certain wide flat road with no intersections, doing the speed limit, and an XR6-T tore past him and then slowed right down, untill they were driving level.
the car had stickers on it saying it was from a nearby for dealership, a demo car.
the driver pointed forewards "want to race?" style, so my mate dropped it back to second and stomped it.
he got the jump of course, because the other guy wasnt ready, but then he saw the XR6 gaining on him, then it passed him at a rate of knots....
his words were "he didnt just pass me, he shat on me!" needless to say, my friend was very upset.
needless to say, i couldnt wipe the head-splitting grin off my face for quite a few hours after that....
i dont think that old mate from the first post raced a real gtr either, unless the driver of the skyline was a total wally and had no idea: he was probably sitting with the seat so far back (fast and furious style, you have to look SIK mate when you drive a gtr) that he couldnt press the accelerator all the way to the floor....

I can get new Genuine Holden/Ford/Audi/Land Rover/Honda parts cheap, PM me!
I'm no Skyline expert, but any car developed from such a long and successfull racing history has got to be quick, even if it is just a shadow of the race car itself. I can't think of any part of a BA that is directly developed from such a successfull race car.
some mags say ss is faster by .2 second
some say its almost dead even.
"Is it really though? Or is it just a 4WD two door jap sedan with a few more ricer mods?"
err... really think about that again.. the chasis are actually different from the gts-t.. which is a COUPE not a sedan for one.
its not JUST 4wd.. its one of the most complex setups u can get.. it only becomes 4wd when theres enough traction loss to grant it.. and its a very efficient drivetrain.
individual throttle plates per cylinder, late model comes with a almost bullet proof gearbox, fairly light (considering the size of the vehicle.. and it having to lug around 4wd),
a shitload of power extracted from only 2.6 litres.. RELIABLY.. they love to rev their tits off.. their top end is built to take a thrashing
Ive had the liberty to drive them and i can tell you they really are a race car straight from the factory.
an oversized, overweight sedan isnt a race car becuase it has 260kw :?
"guys, who gives a rat about the GTR??????The XR6T just destroyed a skyline with big exhaust and the driver is happy!"
and maybe he did.. but to let people be so ignorant to beleive he beat a actual gtr.. I couldnt do.

Hehe no steering rack in the boot. 4WS works very well in my Prelude. And here's a brief explaination of it from my workshop manual.
"A center shaft running from the front steering gear output pinion shaft transmits turning motion to a rear steering gearbox. The rear knuckles are attached to the rear steering gear by two tie-rods, similar to the front steering arrangement. At steering wheel angles within approximately 127 -degrees from the straight ahead position the rear wheels turn the same direction as the front. Beyond the 127-degree range however, the rear wheels turn opposite the front wheels, making extremely sharp turns possible."
I'm told that the Skyline system is a little more advanced (mine's from 1988) but that it does turn the rear wheels the same way within a certain amount and then opposite beyond that range in a similar fashion to my Prelude. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
My 2c on the GTR vs XR6T drag race debate, sure the GTR/GTS-T should have won, but it doesn't mean that it did. I would consider the GTR a low to mid 13s car stock and the XR6T i've got no real idea.
Ok going abit of the topic here but talking about 4 wheel steering the 1988 Honda Prelude like what XAHardtop owns is a mechanical setup.
The 4WS found on the Skylines have a japlish term of HICAS and Super HICAS which the rear steering can be actuated via electronic servo's. I'm told that after 40km/h the car steers like a conventional ie only 2 wheel steering, however push it into the corner and when the rear starts to slide out the rear wheels will turn at the cornering angle hence aiding mid corner speed. I have witnessed this happen as a mate took his R33 at around 50km/h around a tightish corner. Very effective when the system works well, but when it breaksdown it can be one hell of a job to fix and the price.
But going back on the topic i stand firm if it's an R33 GTS-T the XR6 is more than a match but a GTR i'll need to see it to believe it.

My brother just got a GTS-T about 3 weeks ago. He took me for a spin and HOLY SHIT. If the XR6T is that fast I will trade me missus and the mother inlaw for one. As for the GTS-R getting beaten by a XR6-T. I would have to see it to beleive it. If anyone has been in a Turbocharged vehicle you would know that it is quite an experience and There wouldnt be many V8 clunkers around that would match the pure acceleration.
