I guess it's a V8 thing. In NZ the XR6T's are selling well (orders) but talking to a lot of dealers, and there are a heap of people (incl. Holden owners) who are waiting to buy the new XR8.
It is more distinctive from the XR6 than with the AU range.
But yours is a valid point though, 8K does seem a lot more at first.
But you are getting a lot more engine, even though it may not be a lot faster (if it is !) and V8's will always be V8's. And a NEW V8 for the first time in how many decades for Ford ???
I would go for the XR8 if I could afford it. The GT's will be considerably less than the top HSV's so in that sense they will be great value.

I reckon the XR6T is way better value.
I was considering a GT but unless its value for money I may have to resort to the turbo.
Can anyone enighten me on what you get for the extra 8 Gorillas you have to cough up for the XR8
Drive one, then you'll see...

I have driven an XR6T and it was quite impressive...way better than my current AU XR8.
I agree and 8 is an 8 and there is no substitute for cubes...but still 4 grand for each extra cylinder is pretty steep. I'd be suprised if you couldnt pick up a 5.4 engine is a year or 2 for less than 8 thousand.
then you have to put a new gearbox in it plus find all the stuff like engine mounts. Then if the car was still under warranty I think ford would take a very dim view to what you have done.
If you want a turbo 6..buy a turbo 6.. if you want an 8 then get one

all I am trying to point out is is that I dont think a 16% increase in price is warranted for an extra couple of cylinders and a bonnent hump.
I guess in the end I will get the GT but I think I'm paying a premium for the GT badge....How much is the GT badge really worth.

Talk about taking all the fun out of it. Do you really want FF members to tell you all the reasons why the GT will be worth it?
If you don't value it, don't buy it and save your money for something you can get excited about.......sounds like a turbo to me:grom:
