On Saturday, I put a deposit down on what will now become my very own ZH. Picking it up tomorrow afternoon once it's passed RWC and then it's off to get it registered. Then it's all mine... :)
Preparations have begun for its arrival. I've bought a workshop manual and I've measured the garage (wife's Saab will have to sit outside... yeah, right!)... of course, it won't fit...
So, what have I bought? Here's a quick rundown:
Sept 1977-build ZH Fairlane 500
302c with C4 tranny, 350 Holley, 2" single sports exhaust, runs like a clock, no oil leaks, needs no major work
Aquamarine metallic paint (2-year old respray)
Reconditioned 14" Hotwires with brand new 235 Kumhos all 'round
Lowered one inch all 'round
No bog, no rust underneath the car at all anywhere that I could see, apart from maybe a 50c piece on the trailing edges of the front guards. Sills solid... in fact, the only visible exterior rust is on the rain channels above the doors and some small spots on the bonnet. Amazing.
So what does it need?
1. New front seats if I ever want to take the covers off.
2. A new stereo.
3. New pads on the front.
4. New rear external door handles.
And how much? $1,300 with RWC. For a long-term project car with virtually no rust, I think that's something of a bargain.
Pics tomorrow - picking it up this afternoon. Oh, and it needed new rear door handles for the RWC... vendor decided to fit them for me and not charge me. How nice!
The motor looks like sh#t.
There I feel better now.............
Nice car Neeek, I note that the vinyl roof is gone, but the chrome strip where it normally joins is still there.
I think you have the bargan of the year and we are all mighty pissed off!
Yes, but it doesn't half bloody go! I'm not completely sure what's going on under there, but it pulls harder than any other stock 302 I've sat behind... I need to investigate further. Think it's running a bit rich too (and the timing's a smidge out) so I'll have to give it a full once-over this weekend.

Not for long... :)
While I'm here, I thought that the engine number and VIN were the same on these cars? As it transpires, they don't match up. This only makes me more suspicious of what the engine is... maybe it's actually a mild 351... (I wish!).
Anyway, thanks for the positive feedback - it'll make me feel better next time I fill it up.
Nice buy there Neeek, can't go wrong for 1300 bucks!
The engine numbers did match the chassis on these cars, so it's had a transplant at some point. Could well be a 351, you can measure the stroke through the plug hole to find out for certain
Are you going to put the chrome strips back on the wheel arches ect..? You should be able to pick a set up for cheap off a wreck
