Re: Come on Fairlane Guys/Girls

Az, your LTD sounds like my Fairlanes, not quite fitting into any group, well my 66 one, not the same as US 66 Fairlane as Fairlanes here were based on full size Fords, eg, the Galaxie platform.
Where abouts are you?

It isn't really a fairlane (although it was based on it) and not really a Galaxie. Doesn't quite fit neatly anywhere.

Feel free to join in az, would love to see some pics of your car.
There wouldn't be many P5 Town Cars left I'd imagine

In the meantime take a look at this P5 restored by Grand Tourer, Id give my left nut for this car

Re: Come on Fairlane Guys/Girls

Wow Hypo, that could be a carbon copy of my links pages, guess the web is quite a small place when you think about it.

Here's a couple more:-http://mang02.freeyellow.com/Fairlane/ozfairlanes.htm

Thats a great LTD. I don't have access to the tech to put up pictures but I'll give a few more details.

My LTD is a 1975 town car whish I bought in 1997. It is also a 50th anniversery special. (It has got different badges on the rear pillers. It is metallic gold (Goldrush?) with a matching Vinyl roof. Still got the original wheels. I keep the hubcaps safely locked up and use smaller xb ones most of the time.

The car is rust free but not entirely blemish free but it still looks too good to justify a respray. It has some scratches and repairs and a little fading. All the brightwork is still in place. I have had the vinyl roof replaced. I also had to replace the centre tail light section with the fairlane one bacause an idiot in a mitsubishi lancer banged into the back of me. The correct one was unobtainable

The leather seats are still good. I use sheepskin seat covers to protect them. The inside trim is good as well. It still has the original am radio and cassette deck. The car has always been kept in a garage.

It still has the original motor although I have had the heads rebuilt.

Main issues - It tends to suffer in performance because it sits around a lot. I generally only drive it on weekends. It also doesn't like LRP petrol very much. It is just ok on 98 ron unleaded but the additive tends to gum up the spark plugs.
The difficulty in finding trim parts leads to some paranoia while driving and I have to be a bit of nazi when it comes to food, drink and smoking inside the car.

Still, when I put my foot down and hear that motor roar....

Azraelder,
Perth WA
It still has the original motor alth
