1968 XL heat defrost cable

My 1968 XL convertible heater ac control had a broken cable that was removed years ago.

Does anyone have one you can look at to see where it attached on the plenum. It is different than the Ford plenum and control shown in the manual. XL's were built on Mercury assembly line and so it would more closely resemble that. Please help as this is all that stands between me and year round enjoyment of a fine car. It is not attached below the defroster discharge as indicated for other ford models.

I’ve tried several sources to no avail and am looking for a car that the owner can compare and send the information.

Thanks
