Question 62 Ford Galaxie Fuel Consumption

I try to figure out my Fuel Consumption Probs- )

What is the Capacity of a Fuel Tank for a 62 Ford Galaxie Conv.?
How much Miles could I drive with normal cruisin Style - behaviour?

Which function does the Power Valve in a Autolite 4100 - 1.12 have? And what would occur if it is failin?

My Car droves good, starts well in cold temperature, and do not stutter in acceleration or unequal engine behaviour...

Have to admit often drive short cruises...-( but which distance are short cruises for a 390 FE???

thanks
Oliver from Germany - Cologne

Re: 62 Ford Galaxie Fuel Consumption

The power valve opens up when you are accelerating, it's held closed by vacuum. If you have a vacuum leak or it fails (generally fails open), you'll burn rich. I believe you should have about a 20 gallon tank and depending on the gearing, you should be around 12 miles to the gallon.

Ever notice that there's so many high performance parts available for GM products?

Did you ever think that maybe they NEED them?

Re: 62 Ford Galaxie Fuel Consumption

thanks - so I think the Fuel consumption depends on my drivin habit of short cruises, and the ineffective Fuel Gauge and Sender, Drivin habit shows no Signs of defect Power Valve or burn rich (could see on exhaust Fog - right??)

Could not think that the FE 390 would be so thirsty...-(

thank you for reply..

Olli
