its a 289 ,cruiseomatic rebuilt the carb, new fuel pump, cap, rotor, points condenser, plugs,wires,new vac adv, it has bad accel, and wont go faster than 40-45, i have to floor it to get it to go 40, and when i do that oil spits out the dipstick, also before the timing was about 16 i put it at 8, what is the spec. thanks for the help

I would recheck the plug wires, maybe a couple of crossed wires or one position off. Also reset the timing back up to 10 degress.

checked wires they are correct and timing to 10 deg , still no more than 40 ish

Might check to make sure your distributor is advancing. Can you get high rpm from the motor when you are stopped in neutral? If you got oil coming out the dipstick tube you have something plugged up or too much oil in the crankcase. Check the pcv valve too.

I had the same problem with my 63 and solved it by putting in a 429!! Seriously, hold the car in low gear and see if it will pull to the top of the gear then go to the next gear and if it does continue to pull thru the gear you just elimanated fuel and exaust restriction as possible problems. If it didn`t pull is your exaust whistling at higher rpm? If not than a new and still bad pump is not unheard of or a clogged filter. hope this helps.

Another possibalty is jumped timming chain, which will put alot of pressure in your crank case causing oil to blow out tube
