HI Guys,

I'm hoping that someone on here may be able to help with probably the oddest question you will have had on here for, well, forever I should imagine!!

My husband has a '66 Galaxie with a 240 engine (straight six), in the 20 years we've owned her the engine has always been running backwards!!, however, due to a carb problem a couple of months ago she backfired which made the engine then change direction and the engine than ran the right way. We changed the faulty carb but she misfired again and now she is running backwards again.

The question is how can we get her to run the right way again (without backfiring..)?????????????

Since changing the carb we can't seem to get the timing or the fuel mixture right either so we really would be most grateful if you could help us with this oddity.

Everyone that we've spoken to have all said the same thing to us, that it is impossible for the engine to run the opposite way to how it should, but I can assure you we have an engine that does just that!!

HELP PLEASE ----- WE'RE GOING NUTS WITH IT ALL!!!!

So then, in otherwords, you have to put it in reverse to go to town?

and then you would have 3 speeds backwards, which would be unique.

Impossible. The oil pump would blow bubbles into the oil ban. Nice try debsf1. Plus the
charging system would be reversed. Mind you it could back fire and run backwards but for only 2-3 seconds. I've seen lots of that. Lots of smoke coming out of the carb.

You are sitting in the drivers seat facing the wrong way. Turn around and the world will come back to normal. If it does it again then get in the rear seat facing backwards and standing on your head. It always works.

Just to give all you guys another laugh at my expense, the Galaxie's engine IS still running backwards, and this has been seen by many Ford enthusiasts who cannot work out why or how it has ever managed to run at all..

So, no not a bogus post at all, I was serious about the engine problem..just couldn't remember which forum out of many I had posted for help on.

My question may have been written in a light hearted way but it would have been nice if someone could have offered some real advice to a fellow enthusiast, all be it a female one!.

You used to be able to do that with the 3 wheel Messerschmitt two stroke engine years ago in the 50/60s when you wanted reverse .It gave you four reverse gears , same as forward .
