Me again...... Better half has a 460 with a C6 in his 64 now and was looking to see if a 4.6 w/ an AOD would be a better combination for better gas mileage and driveability. He doesn't get to drive it much due to only getting about 13 mpg.
Any info on this matter is greatly apprecaited.

Besides the headaches for making a modular work in a gal I don't think you'd get the mileage you want. I have a 4.6L in my Grand Marquis and it gets about 18mpg avg. and I know the GMQ weighs less than my '64 Gal. Also a 4.6L only makes 200-250hp with stock to minor mods, the 352 makes 250 right off the bat and the larger engines even more power.

My 64 with a 428 only gets 10mpg, with the aero package of a brick it's had to get much mpg, but the fun that you get is worth every dime, or dollar.

I've also contemplated a 05 Mustang drivetrain, simply because a small but powerful for its size V8 with a small twin turbo setup and some creative fuel injection mapping could create a real monster that is also driveable.

Another way to go is a GearVendors Over/Underdrive, although if you look at the price of the unit installed versus what you save in gas dollars, its not quite as attractive. Factor in the 22% (i think) less wear on the motor by running lower rpms, maybe you get longer engine life?

Personally I have a couple of goals, 450hp, 30 mpg. Are they attainable in the 63 1/2 Galaxie, I think so. John Meaney of Big Stuff 3 fuel injection has a claimed 1200+ hp and 18mpg in his late 80's early 90's Vette. The motor is twin turbo'd and of course Meaney has some hours spent tweaking fuel maps, shift points, and I'm assuming custom gearing.
